Q: Has anyone used these skates outdoors? They are called Rink Skates but I have bought outdoor/indoor skates labeled "Rink". Do they run smooth on pavement? Has anyone used them on sidewalk/street? Any input on outdoor use is appreciated!

submitted by JRB - 9 years ago
  • A: Thanks MaryKate, and yes your answer about softer wheels for outdoor use is true. I'm looking for derby skates so I will probably have multiple sets of wheels anyway

    submitted byAngelStar3 - 8 years ago
  • A: I was wondering the same thing! It looks like someone else also had this question, CaseySellentin ^. I think these might be for just indoor use, considering that they are hard wheels. Typically hard wheels are used primarily for indoor use. If you would like to skate outside then you might need to purchase softer wheels, which are meant for outdoor use because they are more shock absorbent.

    Don't Buy

Do not get these skates. I got them cause I wanted to get into roller skating and saw this was supposed to be beginner-friendly. First mines arrived stained and with the wheel off. I started practicing indoors cause I saw the reviews saying these are not good for the outdoors. Which is true! The wheels felt weird. I couldn’t do anything but practice going forward. My friend is a good roller skater and used them and noticed they were bad. She suggested ordering new wheels and I saw people said that too. So I did. The wheels on the skate wouldn’t come off for anything. The bolts were stuck. Took 3 hours and WD40 to get them off. Put the new wheels and noticed a big difference. But the skate still felt weird and I returned them. Definitely will just be saving up to get some better skates. Even though it will most likely be $100+ but you will be getting quality. Cause upgrading it will put you at $100+ anyway. (The wheels I had got were $43 + 60 for these skates = 103) So glad I didn’t decide to practice outside cause I feel like I would have hurt myself.

    Solid Buy! :)

These are perfect skates for a new skater—very nicely constructed and had good movement out of the box. Definitely go down a full size from what you normally wear (e.g., I wear a 7 normally but got a 6). My recommendation is to get different wheels if you are skating outside, and make sure to watch videos on how to adjust your skates to your preferences (e.g., loosening trucks, wheels, toe stops, etc.). Very happy with this purchase!!!

    Very cute but big

So my daughter just received these and thankfully i read all the reviews beforehand. She wears a womens 9-9.5 and the only size available was an 8. I was highly skeptical that they would work. When she received them they looks too small but they were perfect. I didnt believe it so I tried them on myself as I am also a 9.5 and they had plenty of room in them. Dont know how long they will last, but she is tickled pink and thats all that matters.

    NOT oversized

I saw all the reviews of people saying that the shoes we’re oversized. I am a size 8, I was worried the skates wouldn’t fit I even convinced myself that the moment they arrived I was going to return them because they weren’t gonna fit but they fit, I even measured them with my shoes they were perfect, I really don’t know why people were complaining I guess they don’t know their own size, anyway the top of the skate is quite stiff but it’s good for the price

    Run big

I normally take an 8 ordered a 7 and still big but will keep anyway. As other reviews not easy to use on pavement will have to buy a new set of wheels. Very stiff

    Good value for the money

Bought as a gift for my sister. Comes with tools to swap wheels. Very heavy but sturdy. Not comfortable, probably could use an added insole but they’re good for the price.

    Painful

Well they do work, but they are painful to wear. The sizing is too big and the fake leather they are made of is hard and in flexible. I normally wear a size 10.5 wide, and these size 10s are like 11s or more. There is also no support on the inside. I am debating on sending them back. I'm hoping I can break them in.

    Honest review

Don’t listen to the snobs and the pros. These are great entry skates! Perfect for smooth surfaces and cruisin around instagramming with your friends. With the skate shortage I’ve had trouble getting my hands on anything. These are awesome! And worth the price! The wheels and toe stop are fairly poor and need to be replaced but the boot, plates, trucks all seem to be well made! Chicago use to use plastic plates which is why they get a lot of poor reviews but I’m loving this safety and performance upgrade! I wouldn’t recommend these as is for extreme skating (like ramps and bowls) My upgrades cost around 120$ (toe stops wheels laces accessories) bringing my total to 180$ which is around the price you’d get for better brands. So pick your poison. I’ve had fun “making” my own great pair of skates though!! I’m a 7.5 in women’s shoes I got the 6 fits perfect!

Not true to size, but good skates

PLEASE READ! I read reviews from people who said that they were true to size. I had a totally different experience. I wear a six and a half or a seven and I bought the seven. I would understand if they were a little large, but they are huge probably more like an eight or a nine. I like the skates, I like the wheels, I tried to get over it but it was just too much. So my recommendation would be to try to find them in store, or just be prepared to return them if the size doesn't fit. Other than size though I think they're good esp for beginners.

    Covid Excercise

I was sent an alert when my size became available. Had to exchange for a smaller size. I wear an 8 1/2 but need a 7. Shipment came in to time, and in excellent shape. The skates are the same as my old ones, but it seems like the run smaller.

Good beginner skates, proceed with caution....

I got these skates 1 month ago! It's been a fun and cost effective starter skate, and my first skates as an adult. (Quarantine amiright?) I've maybe skated with them 15-20 times? TLDR, I think it's good for the price, but there's some quality/safety issues to be aware of.... I've been using them outdoors only as a total beginner, trying to learn simple moves like transitions, spins, crossovers, and already notice some quality problems. For example, the wheel axels gets loose from the metal truck constantly, and re-loosen almost every other day. The toe stop also keeps falling out. I now keep a set of tools and my own screwdriver when I go outside to skate. I'm outside the warranty window of 30 days otherwise I probably would try to return them. Seems like they would be safe enough for super smooth indoor conditions, but I think for outdoor, proceed with caution! If you can afford a better skate, and if think if you think you might be serious about skating for like, longer than a few months, I would save up for the ones that start at like $100. I paid $64 for these and I dont know if they'll last me through the year tbh. If you do get them, size down definitely!! I luckily saw the reviews here and got a size 5. I'm normally a 7. Happy skating :)

    Good for beginners

I’m going to write a honest review. The skates are very good for their price, however the wheels are not designed for outdoors nor the break. I had to purchase new wheels and bearings, because the once that they come with are very bad for outdoors. If it’s your first time buying a pair of Rollerskates are perfect for you. If you want to upgrade probably you will need to add 160 more to the price. I attach photos of the skates already upgraded in the old wheels.

    Not bad

Skates were good I’m a size 8-81/2 and ordered a 7. I have wide feet and it still fit nice and no snugness. The wheels are okay but only good for beginners, once you get the hang definitely invest in some better wheels and bearings. Overall great skates.
