Disappointing
Having read ACOTAR and TOG, this new series was super disappointing. The protagonist follows the same trope from the other series of the broken, callous, and insecure female who is actually super attractive, super strong, super powerful and ends up saving the world after technically dying. Oh, and don't forget since the protagonist is super hot she makes all males fall for her. Of course this is all the while the protagonist is courting her would-be mate after they get over their aggressiveness toward each other before finally falling in love. Yawn!!! C'mon... Not to mention the plot twist after the second book is absolutely maddening! The revelation at the end of the second book felt like lazy audience pandering. Like the author couldn't make a story that could stand on its own merit so she had to bring in characters that her readers already love. At this point, it just feels like Sarah J. Maas is only interested in cash grabs rather than creating anything truly worth reading.

I had low expectations because of some word of mouth, but man, I did not agree. I eventually could not put the book down, and was breaking my bed time on multiple occasions! Too big to hold a physical book, do yourself a favor and stay digital for this one. Not sure if it’s a spoiler letting you know the spice level but stop reading here if you don’t want to know…… only one 🌶️, but it didn’t bother me. Happy to move on to the next, really loved the murder mystery aspect.

SJM has done it again
There was SO much happening in this book as expected from the first in a series there was so much to learn. And as expected from SJM once we reached the halfway point there was no putting the book down. Being as whole heartedly OBSESSED with ACOTAR as I am in was so excited to read another series by SJM and I wasn’t disappointed. It was so interesting to see her build a world with so many differences from the world of ACOTAR yet so many similarities. And leave it to SJM to make me love a character I didn’t even want to love just to break my freaking heart!! Now I’m just mad my copy of House of Sky and Breath doesn’t arrive for two more days.

High Fantasy with a Touch of Mystery
2/5 Steam Rating I went into this book expecting a story similar to ACOTAR but this is completely different! While this is a high fantasy and has a few world building similarities, this one was a more modern world and includes a bit of a mystery to the storyline. There was a bit of repetitiveness at the beginning of the story, but it was easy to get sucked into Bryce’s story and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
