Description

Book Synopsis

When an army vet becomes a firefighter in small-town Colorado, the flames of an old love reignite in this sweet romance by bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray

In Woodland Park, a small town nestled in the foothills of Pikes Peak, Anderson Kelly and Chelsea Davis were once the high school "it" couple--the star quarterback and the valedictorian. They broke up when Anderson joined the army and one poor decision at a fraternity party changed Chelsea's life. Now, she works long shifts in a senior center to support her nine-year-old son, Jack.

After multiple tours in Afghanistan, Anderson has changed, too--physically scarred but mentally strong--and he decides to move back to Woodland Park. Anderson and Chelsea steer clear of each other to avoid reopening old wounds, until they are forced to reconnect through the senior center. They soon discover that the love they once shared never completely vanished. But it will take a fire, a dangerous collision, and the love of one little boy to help Anderson and Chelsea see that the future they've always yearned for is in sight...

Heartwarming Contemporary Romance

This book will appeal to so many readers! It has memories of a first love, a second chance to set things right, and the reminder that going home again can be possible. Chelsea Davis returns home to Woodland Park with her 9-year-old son and finds that her high-school sweetheart has come back home also. She and Anderson Kelly once thought they would have forever but forever wasn't possible then. Is this a déjà vu in the making? Author Shelley Shepard Gray offers readers a peek into the adventure and danger that firefighters face each day and she also shares the issues associated with being a single parent. Chelsea and Anderson are perfect together, and her precious son Jack absolutely needs a father! Coming Home is a heartwarming contemporary romance filled with hope, forgiveness, and second chances. I look forward to returning to this small Colorado community! I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Coming Home by Shelley Shepard Gray is a charming story. I enjoyed the author’s descriptions of Woodland Park and the Colorado Rockies. It sounds like a beautiful area to live. This is a character driven story with characters of varied ages. I enjoyed getting to know Chelsea Davis and Anderson Kelly. I thought the characters were realistic and relatable. I admired Chelsea’s work at the senior center. She is a kind and patient woman. Chelsea’s son, Jack is sweet and perceptive. Chelsea and Anderson were young when they broke up. I understood Anderson’s reasons and Chelsea’s reaction is something many women can relate to. Both of them need to find a way to forgive each other and themselves so they can move forward. There is a cute subplot involving two of the older characters. I love how it played out. My one complaint is there is repetition of details especially regarding Chelsea and Anderson’s past romance. I am looking forward to the next A Woodland Park Firefighters Romance. Coming Home is a feel-good story about forgiveness, relationships, family, community, and love.

A great beginning to the new Woodland Park Firefighter Romance series. You will quickly become immersed in this story as you are drawn into Chelsea’s life as a single mom working in a senior center. It is like a dance watching her and Anderson navigate seeing each other again after years apart. It’s a dance you want to see more of as you want to see the finale. I love second chance romance stories and this one checks all the feel good boxes. Finding and seeking forgiveness is depicted in a believable and heartfelt story that teaches us that open communication is paramount for a successful relationship. A great heartwarming story that you won’t want to put down. I received a complimentary copy from the author. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

This is a story of lost love and finding it again, years later. The separation after high school's end, left them with hurt feelings and choices that were not the best. Chelsea finds herself as a single mother, who loves her son and wants to make the right decisions for both herself and for him. When she reconnects with Anderson Kelly, they both realize there were mistakes made and aren't sure if the feelings they separated with could ever heal. This is a sweet story and the characters were both caring and thoughtful of the situation they find themselves in. The book will make you feel good and there are other characters that play an important role in the lives of the main characters. The story was realistic and I kept reading to see how it played out. A good book, one that you will truly enjoy. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
