If you happen to have no peephole, you have two options: Drill a hole big enough to house a peephole or get the doorbell version of the ring where you place on the frame on the left or right of the door. (The doorbell version comes with either battery or wired versions)

  • A: Hi Dawn, Great questions! The battery in your Ring Peephole Cam can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. The more events captured by your Ring Peephole Cam, the more your battery is used to power the live HD video stream to your device. Even if you do not answer the event, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the live view to look or speak through your camera. The Ring Peephole Cam features 155° horizontal, 90° vertical field of view. These peephole cameras do not record through an outside glass door and will not pick up motion through an exterior glass door. This was not a good purchase. My side door does not have a screen or glass exterior door and it does ok.

Peephole Cam (Door View Cam) is not recommended for doors with a glass storm door, metal, or screen door in front of them. Doors that close in front of Peephole Cam (Door View Cam), like screens and storm doors, will have an impact on Peephole Cam's (Door View Cam's) functionality. Glass doors cause reflections back into the camera, obstructing its view. Metal and mesh screens, regardless of whether they are glass or metal, may partially or fully obstruct the camera's view and interfere with wifi. They will prevent motion from being detected by the Peephole Cam (Door View Cam) until the outer door is opened. Excellent product that gives me peace of mind that I haven’t missed anything. Clear picture, great motion detection. I love the peephole design which makes it so much easier to install and saves drilling permanent holes. Battery is easy to remove for charging without having to step outside. Battery lasts well and replacements are easy to acquire to have a back up to stop any gaps in the function. Funny smart responses make for lots of fun during Christmas and Halloween.

This camera is great for someone who lives in like an apartment or something of that nature. It’s extremely easy to install it. After installation, you just download the app and it literally walks you thru the rest of the process step by step. You simply remove your peephole and screw the camera in where ur peephole once was a voila! Crystal clear picture! Spot on motion detection & 2 way microphone where you can actually talk to someone at ur door from ur camera app. It’ll also pair right up with ur other Amazon devices like Alexa, etc.

The ring camera is a good concept but the batteries don’t last very long when we first got it. It lasted for a few months and we’ve had them for at least six months and they work very well. I think a lot of people half of America has them if you don’t have them you should get them. They’re pretty cheap and they work well.

Great for apartments where hardwiring is a no-go

I live in an apartment so I couldn’t get a hardwired doorbell. I’m also kinda short, so I would always have to tippy toe to try and see through the peephole. This eliminates that. I can just check on my phone who’s at the door. Installation was simple. There is still a hole on the inside portion to look through the peephole as normal. Resolution of video is good.

I like this item a lot, although you have to charge it, mine I only charge once every 2-3 weeks, it’s so simple and connects to all of the Alexa’s in the house so we know when someone’s at the door by them touching the bell. And you can still see through the peephole

Peephole cam doesn’t work. It’ll make an alert for a notification but when I open the app the video never loads and the events can’t be seen. I subscribed for Ring and still no events.

If you are faced with a black screen when viewing Ring video's and live events in the Ring App, the problem may be related to port settings on your router. In business environments and certain home environments, incorrect port settings can cause device set ups to fail, as well. Generally, Ring devices and the Ring application can access the ports they need without any problems. Occasionally a firewall on the router (gateway) in your home or business may be configured to block one or more of these ports. It is also possible that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be blocking these ports. In such cases, the Ring device won’t be able to respond to Live View requests from your mobile device and you may receive motion notifications (or ding events in the case of the doorbell) but find yourself unable to connect to the video.
