Q: Vac is not working on shag carpeting. Suction is so strong that red light comes on for the beater bar and vac will not move. Anyone else have this problem?
A: Hello Sharon P, We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulty with your Shark® vacuum. We ask that you reach out to Shark® Customer Care at 877-581-7375. Representatives are available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 9pm ET | Sat. 9am - 6pm ET. Thank you, The Customer Support Team
submitted byShark Support Team - 6 years agoBrand expertA: I have the same problem without shag carpeting. The beater bar just keeps stopping on carpet. The vac is brand new, right out of the box. I will be returning this. It seems like the beater motor isn't strong enough. Even my battery powered robot vac keeps its beater spinning on the same carpets.
submitted bytacosushi - 4 years agoA: I purchased the vacuum today and having the suction opened at its max does not resolve the problem with the non-rotating roller on shag or high piled carpeting. I really wanted this vacuum to accomodate my needs but unfortunately I must return the unit.
submitted byLadyJ - 3 years agoA: There is a suction valve on the handle. You just have to decrease your level of suction on shag or thicker carpeting. Very simple and effective.
submitted byTargetJack - 4 years agoA: Pull away instead of pushing forward
submitted byA - 3 months agoA: I also have this problem and I do not have shag carpeting. It's very annoying. I may need to return the vacuum if it does not get better.
submitted bykitchenchick - 6 years agoA: Did you try opening the suction control so it is not so strong? Not sure if that will help because I do not have any shag carpeting.

Q: Can you do stairs with it?
A: Yes, very easily. There is a lift away feature. Light and easy. Love this vacuum.
submitted byRoss - 8 years agoA: This unit is great for leaning stairs as you can carry the lift-away portion while vacuuming stairs.
submitted byShark Support Team - 4 years agoBrand expertA: I noticed that Shark sells a motorized attachment on their website that looks like it would be great for stairs. Costs $50.
submitted byTargetJack - 4 years agoA: You could do stairs, BUT its quite heavy and off balance. If you took tank off and only used the wand with the brush, but you still have to hold the tank or it falls over bashing the walls and furniture.
submitted bygrammy - 8 years agoA: Yes, but you have to take the dirt tank off and carry it with you as you go. Works pretty well.

Q: Is the brush roll replaceable? Saw a user review that says it isn’t...
A: Hello GDT, We would like to inform you that the brushroll for the Shark Navigator® Powered Lift-Away® Vacuum is not replaceable. We hope this information helps. The Customer Support Team
submitted byShark Support Team - 6 years agoBrand expertA: You can buy replacement brush rolls on a certain "large-river" website, $11. These are not made or sold by Shark, but probably made in the same factory... All NV5XX models use the same brush roll.
submitted byVac Guy - 1 year agoA: I disassembled my NV586 floor nozzle and removed the worn out brushroll (the screws are not tamper proof, you just need the right tools). Need Shark to tell me which brush roller to is compatible.
submitted byStevo - 1 year agoA: Shark made the brush roll un-replaceable, even going so far as to make the base removal screws tamper-proof, thus ensuring that you'll need to replace the whole unit long before its useable life is over. Very disapppointing. My unit is only 5 years old and works great, but the brush roll is completely worn out.

Q: Where do you get the filters for this thing??????
A: I called Shark, and they referred me to the manual which states the following on page 19: RECOMMENDED FILTER CLEANING SCHEDULE: Pre-Motor Filter Kit (Foam & Felt) XFFT580 Clean every 3 months. Post-Motor Filter (HEPA) XHEP580 Clean once a year.
submitted bykiley - 5 years agoA: https://www.thinkcrucial.com/ Think Crucial Unusual name for a replacement filter company but they have the best prices & have quality products. Free shipping.
submitted byTried - 1 year agoA: I would love to buy an extra filter for mine but don’t think they make them!

Q: Is it light weight and easy to handle?
A: It is much lighter than a big bulky bag vaccum, and much easier to use. I love that I can easily switch to the attachments and back again.
submitted byDebbieS - 7 years agoA: We would like to let you know that this unit weighs 15.2 lbs and is very easy to handle.
submitted byShark Support Team - 4 years agoBrand expertA: I find it way heavier & more difficult to use (wobbles) than my Dysons :( Husband has to use this vacuum as I will not. Do agree lighter than a regular old type vacuum. Would never buy again even if works well because too heavy & wobbly for my liking.

Q: Do the attachments store on the vacuum when not in use? Is there a place where these attachments are fastened when not in use? Or do you have to carry the attachments by hand?
A: Yes, they attach on the bottom in the back.
submitted byRoss - 7 years agoA: We would like to let you know that this unit has 2 spots on the back of the unit to store attachments.
submitted byShark Support Team - 4 years agoBrand expertA: The brush and wand (upholstery and crevice tools) attach to the unit. The model I purchased has a non-motorized head for wood and tile. That does NOT store on the unit.

submitted byKari - 7 years agoA: It is Corded, not rechargeable

Q: I just bought this yesterday. We recently installed hardwood floors in our home. Is this vacuum OK to use on hardwood surfaces? I am nervous it will scratch!
A: When you turn on the hard wood floor mode the brush turns off so no concerns about scratching!
submitted byKari - 7 years agoA: We would like to inform you that this unit is safe to use on all types of floors including hardwood floors.
submitted byShark Support Team - 4 years agoBrand expertA: It has a hard floor mode and attachment; I've not had any issues with the vacuum.

Q: does this vacuum have suction control (ie for cleaning drapes/curtains)?
A: We would like to let you know that this unit does have suction control.
submitted byShark Support Team - 4 years agoBrand expertA: Not that I noticed but it does for carpet vs hardwood floors/linoleum. Comes with several attachments, so those may work for drapes.
submitted byDAY - 7 years agoA: Yes it does have variable suction control.
submitted bysshubb - 7 years ago

A: Why do some reviews list this as 21.2 pounds?
submitted byDan - 4 years agoA: We would like to let you know that this unit weighs 15.2 lbs.
