Q: Do these work like hearing aids

submitted by Mar mar - 7 months ago
  • A: Hello- Shokz here! Our headphones are not hearing devices; however we do have customers who use them to assist with hearing, usually by pairing the headphones to their phone and accessing a hearing aid app like Petralex, Ear Spy, Ear Trumpet, or Hear You Now. These apps use the mic on the phone to pick up surrounding sound and transmit it through the headphones. Please reach out t our Customer Happiness Team if you have any other questions. Thank you!

Q: Can I swim with them?

submitted by Mary - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi there- Shokz here! No, you cannot swim with the Shokz OpenFit Air. They are rated IP54 for sweat and water splash resistance only, not full submersion. Using them while swimming can damage the electronics. For swimming, use the Shokz OpenSwim Pro (IP68 rating) or the dedicated Shokz OpenSwim (MP3). submitted by Jason - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi there- Shokz here! Yes, the Shokz OpenFit Air are an excellent choice for running and casual use, especially if you have struggled with traditional earbuds falling out. They feature an open-ear design with soft silicone, flexible Ni-Ti memory alloy ear hooks that loop over the top of the ear for a secure, comfortable fit. The earbud rests just outside the ear canal, using a dual-bevel, teardrop-shaped design to balance stability and comfort without entering the ear. Good, but not great

Overall, I give these high marks. The sound is far better than I expected, and they really do help to hear what is going on around you. I cycle regularly and was always a little concerned I couldn’t hear traffic or other riders with regular in-ear ear buds. The Shokz have solved that problem. There are some weaknesses. The touch controls aren’t very usable. There are touch points for functions, but no tactile way to locate them with your finger. You sort of have to just feel around until the function you want happens. It’s not easy while riding 20-25mph. Another big issue I found was when they get sweaty, the seller can activate the functions. On a couple of occasions, the “volume up” function got “stuck” with warm sweat and it kept going to full volume. I could turn it down with the other side, but it would just go back up. Other that a couple shortcomings, they are good earbuds. I can listen to music at work and still hear when people speak to me. Overall, very satisfied.

    They are okay

They don't grip my ear as much as I would like. Even with turning off the sensitivity they still react when my cycling helmet strap touches. The left headphone button will respond to turning off music, but when I go to turn it back on. The button may or may not respond.

Great sound, but short battery life.

The OpenFit Airs have a noticeably shorter charge life than the OpenFit 2+. Still great sound, though.

    Ok not great

I wanted to love these but I don’t! The sound quality is good and I like that they sit around my ear, but the fit is loose and they fall off my ear easily. There is no way to adjust the fit and I have smaller ears. The tap does not always respond and you have to hit the earbuds in just the right place for them to respond which is frustrating when I trying to answer a call, turn up/down the volume or skip a song. Overall, they do their job but I would not purchase again without smaller ear hooks and a better response to “tapping. ” I should have gotten the OpenRuns, which I had previously and loved.

I wanted them to drown out the mower. I had to go back to another brand that goes in the ear.

    Pleasantly surprised

I wasn’t sure about these at first as someone who likes their music loud but these are amazing. I decided to order them because I have a lot of ear piercings that can make AirPods uncomfortable and fall out when I’m running. I swear there were times when I could not even feel these like I was literally checking to make sure they were still on my ears cause I legit could not tell. They were with me when I ran a 10 miler race the other day and were a perfect companion.

    Disappointed

I was hoping these would be as great as my OPEN RUN, they are not. I cannot answer the phone with them, as I can with my OPEN RUN, a great disappointment. The tap/ double tap is not working. Volume is easy to adjust. So I must still fumble with the phone to accept the call. Listening to an audio book is nice, sound quality is wonderful. I will continue to use my OPEN RUN and these will look nice on a shelf.

    NO

Left ear stopped working. At first it would take a while to connect and it would have to disconnect and de-connect. Now it is not working at all. Definitely do not recommend.

Everything is great, but they don't have ANC, which should be expected with open ear headphones.

    Left ear doesn't always work.

I love the feel and the sound, but the left earbud sometimes won't work. I've tried resetting and recharging, but can't figure out the cause. Sometimes it works great.

    Not if you sweat

A lot of folks in the running group swear by these- but they must not sweat. By mile 6 these short out, stop working, advance on their own. Really frustrating and disappointing. If you don’t sweat or you’re not going far- these may work well for you.
