simplehuman 58L Rectangular Dual Compartment Recycling Step Trash Can

I’m buying my second simplehuman dual compartment trash can. The last one I’ve had for the 7 years. My dogs did some major work to this trash can throughout the years and it’s to the point it doesn’t open all the way when you step on it to open it. I’m sure I wouldn’t be purchasing a new one if my large food motivated dogs didn’t touch it. Perfect trash can to last for years and I highly recommend on buying one.

From the sleek design to the built in air freshener this trash/recycler is even better than I had hoped. The recycling bin helps keep the kitchen tidy.

I am very happy with the 58 L step recycler I just wish it came with 2 blue removal buckets, as I use 1 side for glass/plastic recycling and the other for paper. So it would be great to have the option to have 2 buckets at time of purchase. I know I can buy another blue liner bucket, but according to the website they are out of stock. . .

This item functions fine but the material is very flimsy. Either it was dented when we got it or it was dented when removing it from the box. Would expect higher quality for the price.

By combining recyle and garbage into one high quality can I save space and love the quality. Does not scratch, fingerprint or dent like other cans I have owned in the past. Worth the investment long-term

We purchased the white bin and love it!! It’s perfect and blends with our white cabinets/counter.

Larger than you thought, this vessel holds a lot of refuse. The compost bin fits securely on the side and is at a better height than on the floor, nicer than on the counter. Biggest perk, the can doesn't slide!

It's a great garbage can and recycle bin and keeps my space organized.

This trash+recycling can is the perfect size and setup for my family's usage patterns and for our kitchen. The main drawback is that the lid lift mechanism has plastic parts that will wear out in a few years and cannot be repaired. (This is why we just had to buy a new one. ) If the company made these parts out of metal, then this trash can would be perfect, and last much longer. I despise adding to landfills and creating more plastic waste, so I encourage the company to improve these products by making the moving parts especially out of longer-lasting materials. Ours came with the metal exterior dented badly in a few places, but we were able to fix most of the dents by applying gentle pressure from the inside.

Hello Simplehuman Support, I’m writing because I’m genuinely frustrated with the 58L Step Recycler we purchased, especially given how long I’ve been a loyal Simplehuman customer. We bought our first Simplehuman trash can when we moved into our first house, and it lasted more than 16 years before it finally stopped working. That experience is exactly why I didn’t hesitate to buy another Simplehuman — I expected the same quality and thoughtful design. Unfortunately, this trash/recycling combo has been a big letdown. You describe your products as being “obsessive over every detail,” but there are two major issues that make this can really unpleasant to use day to day. The first is the trash bags constantly falling into the can. It’s rare that I can take the trash out cleanly without having to dig into the can to find the liner, usually with trash having slipped through the cracks. I even bought the Simplehuman proprietary bags to see if that would help, and it didn’t. This feels like a basic design problem that shouldn’t exist at this price point. The second issue is capacity. Both the trash and recycling sides are just too small to be practical. With only two adults and one child, we can’t make it through a week without emptying it at least three times. I understand the dimensions are listed, but there’s really no way to know if something like this will actually work in a real household until you’ve lived with it. Had I known how impractical the capacity would be, I never would have bought the combo unit. I also waited a long time for the matte black version to come back in stock, fully expecting this to be a “forever” trash can like our last one. We spent a lot of money on it, and I kept trying to convince myself I’d eventually love it — but instead, I’ve just grown more frustrated over time. At this point, I’m pretty disappointed and would like to know what options are available to make this right, whether that’s a return, refund, or another solution. Great quality , goes perfectly with our new kitchen . deign blends in wonderfully . Smart and easy to use design. 5 star product . Unsurprising as I’ve used there bins for over 10 years now .

Was on the hunt for the perfect trashcan to go with my champagne bronze fixtures and handles in my kitchen. This is the Cadillac of trashcans. Love it so much, could never go back.

Simplehuman definitely offers the best quality products all the way around. Purchased chrome trash can about 8 years ago with a 10 year warranty. Not only did they abide by the warranty but knew I was moving and delivered a new trash can within a week or less!!

Great dual purpose bin but a little bigger than I thought it would be therefore takes up too much space (visually) in my small kitchen. However that's down to me as not good at visualising things. Not going to return as practically something smaller would not accomodate my recycling and rubbish needs so have just found somewhere else to put it other than the kitchen.

this is a great addition to my kitchen, and the support is incredible, that you again for a great product and stellar reputation.

Once you use it, you can’t even think about other brands. The design and quality are absolutely top-notch.
