A: In many cases, draining the unit is not needed because the system is self-evaporating. However in humid areas the unit will collect more moisture than it can evaporate and so the unit may need to be occasionally drained. Installation was easy and the unit is on wheels making it super easy to move about if needed. I would say it’s noisy but that’s to be expected though not too noisy compared to old products. I got this for my bedroom last summer when my AC went out in my home. This unit cools, but looking back I wouldn’t have chose this one if I knew how it was. I run it consistently, the water fills very quickly. I eventually purchased a 5 gallon bucket ran a drain hose into it so it could run as much as possible. It is the biggest complaint I have, it fills the 5 gallon drain bucket in one day on just the cool mode no dehumidifier. It’s fine if you are consistent cleaning it but I have had it overflow and it’s really inconvenient when it does. My sister has a similar unit and she only drains hers once a week and it runs all day. It does cool my room but I wish the draining was easier or the tank was larger in this.

All of our portable air conditioners are designed with a self-evaporating system, which typically reduces the need to drain water manually. However, in areas with high humidity, the unit may collect more moisture than it can fully evaporate, leading to more frequent draining. To help minimize this, you can use a dehumidifier when the AC is off, if possible. This can reduce the overall humidity in your space and help the AC operate more efficiently. Wanted it for my bedroom since it gets hotter than the rest of the house since I have a gaming computer and oh boy let me tell you this thing gets COLD. Highly recommend giving this a chance I got mine for $299 at the time.

The smart features are super convenient and I can turn it on from my phone before I even get home. It’s energy-efficient and easy to use, Only downside is it’s not super quiet, but the steady hum is manageable. For the price and performance, it’s one of the best ACs you can get for small LA spaces.

It has wheels, which made it easy to move on the hardwood floors and handles which made picking it up when I got to the carpet easy. It blows nice cold air in AC mode and ran efficiently until I got to the set temperature. Fan mode gives you 2 speed options. Dry mode gives you cold AC and a dehumidifier, a valuable advantage in the swampy area I live in. A timer allows you to “set it and forget it” if you don’t want it running when no one is home. The handy remote means you can tuck the small unit in the corner and adjust the settings from the couch or bed. The instructions for installation were very easy, the filter is washable and easy to get to and the drain plug is also easily accessible. My windows are only 30 inches wide and the window installation kit was slightly wider than that at its smallest, so we had to adjust a little, so take that into account. I would also suggest that raising the AC off the ground a little bit— we used 2 pieces of plywood- will make it easier to drain the water from the dehumidifier.

Everything is included in the box that you will need for the install as well. This produces a very quiet “white noise”, just enough to help you sleep. Energy efficient, yes, although I haven’t received my electric bill since using it. I’m just going off what the box says (see photo). Very happy with this product. I may have to make additional purchases in the future.

I bought this unit to replace a new Midea 5000btu that stopped working properly after 1 week. There was a fishy odor when the unit was first turned on, it dissipated quickly. The compressor is quite loud, especially coupled with the gurgling and water sloshing sounds. It is not cooling my small bedroom very well. The dehumidifier function does not seem to work well either. The continuous hose will only drain if the unit is tilted backward.

Waste of time/money

Spend the extra money on a unit that does not require a drain pan/hose. I used it for literally 5 minutes and the alarm went off saying drain pan full. The instructions say "remove the drain pan" but you look under the unit and there is no drain pan. You have to remove this "pan" just to hook up the drain hose on it to. Of course the cheaply made instruction manual doesn't actually show you where and how to remove the pan. I will be returning it and spending the extra money on a unit that doesn't require any type of drainage. This unit needs to sit on the perfect surface at a very specific angle or else it makes a very loud rattle sound coming from the unit. Of course it doesn't make the sound when gently pushing onto the side of it. Waste of my time and money. Never buying a TCL unit again.
