Q: Does thus have to be installed directly into a stud or can it go into Sheetrock

A: Thank you for your question. Because this is a hardware-mounted gate, it does need to be installed into a solid surface such as a wooden stud. It should not be installed only into sheetrock/drywall as it will not be secured and will easily dislodge leading to damage or injury.

A: Thank you for your question. Yes, you can select which side of the gate is the hinged side that stays affixed to the mounting surface and which side latches.
