A: This unit allows for both options. We have used it 90% if the time plugged it. The parent unit can be unplugged and with batteries, can be used around the house. Be advised the batteries do drain very fast when it's unplugged!!! They will die every time the unit is freestanding.submitted byAMCas - 7 years ago

A: Hi - The operating range of the VTech DM111 is up to 1000 feet (300 meters) outdoors or 160 feet (50 meters) indoors.
