I would not recommend this product at all. My daughter has had a terrible cough for two weeks now so I wanted to get her a humidifier. This one was a total waste of money. The steam barely comes out and when it does its only on one side of the vent. I followed the instructions to the T. Adding salt as it says to, and still barely any steam production. If I could return I would.

We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. The only thing that can cause this unit to oversteam is an excess of minerals/salt in the water. If there are too many minerals present in the water, you may experience a loud snapping, or crackling, noise and some spurts of hot water coming from the nozzle. This can be corrected by cleaning the unit as outlined in the owner's manual. We would recommend emptying and rinsing this unit between uses. Additionally, reducing the amount of salt added to your water or mixing in distilled water can help prevent the unit from oversteaming. We hope this information helps. Straight to the trash. Doesn’t have an on switch, plugged in is on. Says not to use an extension cord. And you can’t just put water in it. It has to be special water. It might need salt. You might have to buy a special kind. No way to know, you have to uncover its secrets. Vicks. I have a sick baby and a sick spouse. I do not have time to conduct a potions experiment to get moisture in the air.

I like to add some vaporub into the vaporizer to really get in the sinuses. It has helped us out with cough and congestion.

Fine if you're sick and have no other options... First, it might not work at all. You might have to add salt to the water to get it to start steaming, unless you add too much salt and it doesn't work. It also gets very hot on the bottom of the unit. Putting water in isn't the easiest. I definitely prefer the cool mist steamers more.

Black Deposits in Water

Thank you for this feedback. Please note, these units rely entirely on minerals in the water in order to work properly. It sounds like the mineral content in the water you are using is low, which may cause this unit to not produce output. If there are not enough minerals in your water, we recommend mixing one or two pinches of salt (1/8 tsp) to your water. Please wait ten minutes for the salt to have an effect, and if it is still not generating steam, or is only generating a little steam, then add a pinch or two more as needed, up to ½ tsp. Additionally, the black particles that you see in your vaporizer are normal as these particles are the left over minerals from your water. The reason the minerals turn black is because they have passed through the electrodes and vaporized. As long as the unit is maintained on a daily and weekly basis per the owner's manual, you should not experience any problems with its performance. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love Vicks Warm Steam Vaporizer! I remember when being sick as a child, and my grandmother rubbing the Vicks Vapor Rub on my chest. Which I've now done to my children a couple of times till I discovered this jewel. One of the best things about this vaporizer is the medicine cup which allows you to add Vicks VapoPads or liquid inhalants for added relief, making it easier than rubbing gel on your chest. The added night light is a great bonus feature as well, providing more comfort for the little ones scared of the dark. It also has an automatic shut off when the water reacher down to a certain level. Vicks has been a trusted brand in our family for years, and will continue to be!! They just keep reinventing great products!
