The only thing this pitcher should do is filter water. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting a 000 read on the meter. Turns out, water was leaking from the o ring. I tightened it, tried again, and it still leaks. I tried MULTIPLE times, and it leaks every time. I will be returning the pitcher. Save yourself the Hassle, and look elsewhere for a better filtration system.

Short filter life

Disappointed - 29 days ago, Verified purchaser
Sioux City, Iowa has a high level of particulates in it's water supply. 507 ppm was my latest reading. The ZeroWater filter does reduce the the PPM to ZERO and provides clean tasting, odorless drinking water. However, the filter did not last very long and when it went bad, it really went BAD! It turned into an undrinkable, bitter tasting water. I'm really wondering what caused the bitter flavor? Hopefully not concentrated contaminates! I liked that they included the particulate meter with the filter! I will buy another filter and do a cost/benefit analysis.

We had it less than two months and the filter is came with already stopped working and the water gave off a lemon taste. The second filter we bought and less than three weeks, the water tastes off again. I don’t recommend buying

In order to avoid a change in the taste of the water it is important to test the water regularly as recommended and change the filter when the digital meter reads 006. The life of the filter always depends on the quality of the water being filtered and how gallons of water have passed through the filter.

I loved the concept and it was advertised as being on sale during Target Circle Week. So I snatched one up with lots of hope and that hope was dashed as soon as I opened the box and started cleaning the pitcher for its first use. So here’s a quick list of why it was a waste of money. 1. It’s HARD to get the filter to screw in from the bottom. As soon as you think you FINALLY have it able to screw in, you don’t. Not only that, it takes muscle to get it screwed in all the way or else it leaks as out from that seal (into the water reservoir) as soon as you put water in it. I also heard actual plastic cracking even though I was trying to be very careful to not hurt anything in the process of screwing the filter in. 2. The top. Ohhhh the top. It’s two separate pieces. The back piece functions fine but the front piece that sits directly near the water spout? Not so much. There’s a purple silicone piece that’s supposed to be the “seal” and it’s removable. It very easily comes out of the top piece once it gets wet so it doesn’t stay in its place so it doesn’t stay sealed. Keep in mind, that piece directly touches the water that comes out. So it stays in the wet zone. If it’s not perfectly sealed, it will pop that entire piece off as soon as you tilt the pitcher to pour the water. 3. The inside body piece that you screw the filter into? Well it doesn’t matter if the pieces are all sealed perfectly. It will try to dislodge itself from the actual pitcher as soon as you tilt it to pour the water. I don’t know if I just got a defective pitcher but this is so frustrating when this specific brand has been hyped up so much. 4. There was a huge scratch in the top of the handle, like someone had taken a screwdriver and made a big gash. This one is just cosmetic but it’s brand new straight out of the box. The handle also isn’t completely sealed shut, so any water that gets in it will just sit in the bottom of the handle. I haven’t figured out yet if it can be taken off to clean it, but I’m also returning it asap so I’m not even going to try that hard to figure it out. 5. I gave it two stars since the water quality tester does show 0 TDS so that part works. I tested my tap water, my previous filtered water pitcher, and the zero water pitcher and went by the guidelines shown in the manual so that part was interesting to see.

I’ve used zero water before and they started producing a much cheaper tester that’s bound to break after a few used. The old one was thicker plastic and firmer more resilient buttons. The pitcher itself is horrible. The top reservoir is designed to come apart but the gasket doesn’t keep the water from spilling out. If you try to lift the top part out of the pitcher it will break apart. Sad to see the decline.

I thought because it was a cheap option for a water filter it wouldn't be the best, but after a month of using it I can already tell the difference. I live in an area where our water quality isn't the best, since moving into the area drinking the tap water has cause acne breakout in my skin. After about a month of only drinking water from this filter my skin has cleared up significantly!!! I love that it includes the water tester- so I can see first hand how clean my water is before I drink it. it improves the taste and quality so much! Also came with some discount codes for filter replacements which is so helpful for me as a college student to still prioritize clean water even after the filter is older. Such a great product

I told my wife I was going to buy a Brita water filter because the public water in Ft Lauderdale was colored. I had a filter on the water for the refrigerator icemaker. I googled water filters and after reading them thought the Zero Water brand was the best and better than the Brita brand. I drink about a gallon plus of water a day. I picked the Zero Water 7 cup model. This turned out to be the right decision for us. It came with a water tester for “Total Dissolved Solids”. The 7 cup model is heavy when filled with water. A bigger model would be too heavy to pour for a woman in my opinion. After running about 4 cups of water I tested the filtered water and the reading was 0.0. My wife thought the water tasted better. After over a month of use the water tested 3.6 which is below the 6.0 where the filter is recommended to be changed. We are happy with the Zero Water filter and would recommend buying it.

1 reply from ZeroWater Team team - 4 months ago
Thank you for contacting ZeroWater. We empathize with your situation and we have spoken with many customers with this issue. Some of our customers have used other, traditional filtration systems such as a Culligan Whole House Filter to treat the water prior to filtering through a Zero Water filter, in many cases that will cut the TDS level down enough to make the use of Zero Water more economical. There is very little we can do to extend the life of our filters when the water supply is so high in TDS. Our filters are designed to remove over 99% of dissolved solids; in areas with high TDS readings filter life will be short.

There's a clear difference in the taste of the water. Love that it comes with something to taste the water to know when it's time to change the filter. Setting up did take a bit of time because I took everything apart to clean it and had to make sure water didn't leak from anywhere it shouldn't. Lastly, pricey but I think safe water is worth the cost.

We bought the large refrigerator dispenser and loved it. This pitcher, however, is too small. It fills up a 40 oz water bottle and then there is only enough filtered water left to fill a glass. In addition, the design is terrible. Water pours spout and spills down the front of the pitcher. Zero Water needs to find a solution for the large filter in smaller sized dispensers.

I highly hesitated in buying this filtering system as the bad reviews were pretty consistent in the topic they disliked. I like it a lot! It tastes good, and although I had a problem with the slow filtering at first, I took it apart and re-screwed the filter back in to the top. No issues since! I use this for when I'm dogsitting and the house doesn't have good tasting/filtered water. I would definitely find it pricey if I used it for everyday use, all the time. But water is super important and your body deserves cleanliness. Thanks!

Things to consider

Loch Ness Monster - 5 months ago, Verified purchaser
I hadn't done a deep dive into this water filter before buying it, but now I have. It's called ZeroWater because it reduces the Total Dissolved Solids in your water to 0. Really. There is a meter provided, and instructions on how to use it to test your tap water, your current water filter water, and the water that comes from this filter. For us, tap water was 45, which is not bad (there is also a chart included showing how most U.S. water stacks up). And sure enough, after filtering through this filter, it reads zero. I ended up researching this a lot, and found that it is taking out ALL minerals as well as contaminants (and it does not remove all kinds of contaminants - only dissolved solids). It turns out that removing all minerals makes water taste and feel very odd. It removes essential minerals, especially important for young children. We are keeping ours, but only using it for certain uses. So - I think this filter is great if this is what you want. I also have now read that many people complain about the filters not lasting long - they recommend changing the filter when your resulting water reads 006ppm - which apparently happens sooner or later depending on your tap water. Apparently it gets a sour taste at that point.

Makes Water Taste Worse

I bought this pitcher due its convenient size and to move on from bottled water. It was good for the first two weeks even though I noticed a leak from the reservoir where the filter connects, however, water developed a horrible unnatural and acidic taste, it made my stomach turn. It is definitely not worth trying out, I’ve noticed I’m not the only one with this experience
1 reply from ZeroWater Team team - 5 months ago
ZeroWater's Ion-exchange resin filters are a reliable and efficient way to get delicious, filtered water. They work by exchanging ions in the water with regenerated ions from the resin beds, which can remove a variety of contaminants from water, including lead, nitrates, sulfates, calcium, magnesium, and other heavy metals. The exchanged ions bind with the contaminants, making them much easier to filter out. Our combination of cation and anion exchange resins can reduce 99.6% of dissolved contaminants in your water. However, when the filter is exhausted no more contaminants can be filtered out and an unpleasant smell and taste may be present. This is a common cause of overuse and can also occur by pouring hot water into the filter or freezing it. Be aware, though, that while the smell is unpleasant, it does not indicate any harm or danger. It is only time to replace your filter. In order to avoid a change in the taste of the water it is important to test the water regularly and change the filter when the digital meter reads 006.

I have been enjoying my 30 cup zero water dispenser thoroughly. The water taste quality is superb. It was my turn to host a holiday, so for Easter I cooked and serve beverages but everyone focus and curiosity was on my water dispenser. Turns out I wasted money on soda drinks because everyone insisted on drinking zerowater. My water was a bigger hit than my Easter spread. Thank you Zerowater for being so great and even a better idea for birthday and Christmas gifts this year.

READ PEOPLE - FILTER WORKS

This filter works. Buyers NEED TO READ the pamphlet that’s included. FILTER LIFE is 100% contingent on how hard your water is! The harder the water the shorter the filter life span! That is why you have a meter to check it at every fill. This isn’t hard! Some areas of the country the filter will last longer, other parts (like the southwest) the filter is only good for a few fills before replacing is needed. If it smells fishy, replace your filter! This filters the calcium, minerals, rust, lead, that leave a white residue on your fixtures & makes your water hard & not fit for consumption. It filters the crud that makes you have to descale your coffee maker & other appliances. Brita. Pur. None of these brands filter HARD WATER! Only zerowater.

Thank you for contacting ZeroWater. Apologies for the issue with the filter. Please try removing the filter, drying off the threaded area of the filter with a paper towel, then reinstalling, giving the filter one more hard twist the the right to complete the seal.
