Q: Can you use this for making foaming hand soap?

submitted by Hydyho - 6 months ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's! Due to our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps being very concentrated, they do not work well in pump dispensers. We have tested a variety of pumps and dilutions over the years with little success. Inevitably, the pumps always clog. Instead, we would recommend keeping the soap in its original bottle and using just a drop or two for each handwashing or whatever use you desire. While our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap does not work well with pump dispensers, they do work great in foaming dispensers. Foaming dispensers “thicken” the soap with water and air. If you decide to use a foaming dispenser, make sure to dilute the soap at a ratio of 1 part soap to 3 parts water. This dilution doesn’t create the issues with clogging that undiluted soap would. Suggested ratio example: 8 oz. bottle = 2 oz. soap and 6 oz. water 12 oz. bottle = 3 oz. soap and 9 oz. water Just keep in mind that diluting our soap with water does reduce its shelf life as we do not add any harsh preservatives to our products. Generally, diluting with tap or filtered water results in a shelf life of about 2 weeks to a month, while dilutions with distilled water can last up to 6 months. Using distilled water can also reduce natural soap separation that may occur with hard water. If you prefer not to dilute your soap, we recommend trying our Organic Sugar Soaps. They do not encounter the same pump issues and even come with a pump dispenser. However, they are specifically formulated for bodily use and may not have the versatility that our Pure-Castile soaps do. Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know

  • A: Yes you can. I have for many years :) it gets heavily diluted see the ratio below (about 2oz to 8oz water) and make sure not to over fill your dispenser so there is air in the top. About once a month I remove the pump and clean it with a small brush and water. The pumps eventually fail, but usually last for years. I’ve never had an issue with the soap going bad in the dispenser because we use it frequently and have to refill it weekly to every 2 weeks. And for those with sensitive skin, it has been fine for mine.

Q: Can I use it to clean my makeup brushes

submitted by Curious - 7 months ago
  • A: Hi, thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! Our Pure-Castile Liquid and Pure-Castile Bar soaps work very well to clean makeup brushes. While they work just as well as each other, our Liquid Soap tends to be the most popular option for clean makeup brushes. To clean your makeup brushed with our Liquid Soap, wet the brush and add 1 - 2 drops of our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap (any scent). Gently massage the soap into the bristles making sure soap gets between all of them and then rinse in a small bowl of water. Once clean be sure to air dry the brush in a well-ventilated place. For an example and further information, please check out Lisa Bronner's blog post and video titled Cleaning Makeup Brushes with Castile (https://www.lisabronner.com/cleaning-makeup-brushes-with-dr-bronners-video/). Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Q: Is this soap ph neutral?

submitted by Mooboo - 8 months ago
  • A: Hi, thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! Our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap, like most “true soaps,” falls within the pH range of 8.7 - 9.9, regardless of the scent. We do not purposefully alternate or fluctuate the pH of our soap, and we never add any synthetic preservatives to our body care products. Instead, the highly concentrated nature of our soap keeps the product stable over time. We understand that many do not consider this to be ‘pH-balanced’, however, there is a bit of debate about if pH-balanced soap is necessary. We encourage you to read more about this topic in Lisa Bronner’s blog post, Skin Health, pH, and Dr. Bronner’s Soap (https://www.lisabronner.com/skin-health-ph-and-dr-bronners-soap/). If you have any health concerns, we always recommend that you consult with your dermatologist or physician, as they can help determine the products that may be more suitable for your body. Should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Q: Can this be used as shampoo

submitted by Loki - 10 months ago
  • A: Thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner’s! Our Soaps work exceptionally well to clean hair; however, the process may require a bit of tinkering to fit your specific needs. If there’s one important thing to remember about washing your hair with Dr. Bronner’s before washing, it’s that we strongly encourage you to follow up with an acidic rinse. Due to the alkalinity of our soap, they can leave a tangly look and feel. An acidic rinse not only conditions your hair but also can tamp down the cuticles in your hair and give it a smooth and silky after-feel. To shampoo with your favorite Dr. Bronner’s soap (Castile or Sugar Soap), just start with a dime-sized amount in your palm and lather it into your hair. The water present in the shower is enough to dilute the applied soap. Should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to let us know!

    cap is broken.

I received the correct item, however, the top of the cap is broken. luckily, the bottle has the seal that I have to peel off, but the part of the cap where I clip down to close the small opening is missing.

Lovely scent & Good safe soap

Due to having surgery I wanted a safe liquid soap to use in the shower that wasn’t too harsh on my skin or on the stitches. This soap fits the bill. Gentle soap that really does a good job cleaning. It smells divine as well. Not too strong, but still leaves a hint of lavender afterwards. Sudses up well when using my exfoliating cloth, too! Good price.

    Calm and relaxing

This is one of my favorites out of all of the senses. It would probably be tied with the rose and almond in my opinion however, all of the senses are amazing in their own way and honestly, I try to stay stocked up on all the sense as much as possible just for a variety. This one is one of my favorites, especially after a long day when I just want to relax so if you need or like the sense of lavender, I highly recommend this product. It is a nice lavender some companies. I don’t particularly care for their sense as far as the lavender that they utilize however, Dr. Bronner’s has a really nice lavender scent.

    The Worst

I bought this soap because I’m trying to reduce toxins in my home. It’s great that it’s less toxic but everything else about it is pretty disappointing. The smell is super strong and is a mix between pine and lavender… not for me. I also find the soap very drying on my hands which doesn’t happen to me with other hand soaps I’ve used. Additionally, the soap is very thin so it runs off my kids’ hands before they can rub their hands together and makes a mess of the counter. The nail in the coffin for me is that it builds up around the nozzle of the various soap dispensers around my house and eventually squirts out of a tiny opening straight onto my shirt. This has happened three times now in a week and I don’t have time to be cleaning all the soap dispenser nozzles out all the time around my house. After the second time, I convinced myself to finish it out so I wouldn’t be wasteful but now I’m so done. It’s going in the trash. I’m honestly so surprised that it gets great reviews.

Change of formula? Change of smell.

I’ve been purchasing the lavender scent for quite a few years however the last bottle has a slighter different label and smells like a mixture of lavender and pine sol. I think the formulation has changed. It’s awful.
