Our story begins with the need for a sunscreen brand that caters exclusively to women of color.

From carrying expensive umbrellas to the beach to avoiding the sunshine altogether, women of color have come up with their own methods of protecting their skin. For years, sunscreen has been tailored to light-skinned individuals, leaving behind a visible white residue on our darker-skinned sisters. Blotchy makeup and white residue were enough to keep people from truly enjoying a beautiful sunny day. Our founder thought it was about time to change that.

In 2016, Shontay Lundy created Black Girl Sunscreen, a 30 SPF lotion infused with natural ingredients and formulated for women of color. Made with melanated skin in mind, BGS dries completely clear and protects melanin without the white cast.

Today, Black Girl Sunscreen is making moves! Black Girl Sunscreen has grown exponentially because of you. The goal of BGS is to start the conversation globally around sun safety to educate and protect melanin beauties worldwide. Uses

Uses helps prevent sunburn, if used as directed with other sun protection measures (see Directions), decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun

Directions

Directions apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure reapply: after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying, at least every 2 hours, Sun Protection Measures. Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a Broad Spectrum SPF of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses, children under 6 months: Ask a doctor.

TRY IT!!!!

I REALLY like this formula. It’s more hydrating than the regular one but in the best way! I feel so velvety it’s amazing. Scent is great too! I will be buying this one moving forward! No white cast too!

LOVE the subtle vanilla scent! Made my skin glowy!

The subtle vanilla smell is perfect in my opinion. I don’t care for the standard sunscreen smell so this is perfect! Also adds the perfect glow to my face and chest. Recommend!!!

Game Changer

BGS has done it AGAIN! I would never have thought of a Vanilla Scent in sunscreen. This smells so good, and of course, the consistency of the lotion and no white cast is the same as the OG black bottle. The bottle looks even better in person. It gives elegance. Now, I asked the question about the sunscreen not being completely filled since I can see through the bottle and was told it IS 3 oz of sunscreen. The bottle is more significant because it needs room to fill. So, FYI, don think you are being cheated.
