purchase this item in the third week of January. I opened it to use it today, and it is thick like lotion. You can see in the picture, it is not liquid at all – it is completely like sludge. It also has an odd smell. I tried to return it, but it says the return window has passed. Now I am afraid to order the same product from Target again.

We're sorry to hear this. When exposed to extreme temperatures these conditioners can thicken, but will return to normal consistency when it reaches room temperatures. I love downy and buy it all the time. But, the first bottle I received was leaking and I thought it was from mishandling. So, target sent me another one. This one was also leaking. I then discovered they were both leaking in the same spot. Below the cap on the rim of the bottle were it comes together (like a collar on the bottle). I then informed target that they should probably check other bottles for the same leak. I think I may be a manufacturing defect.
