Q: Can this be for basal body temperature

submitted by Janci dehart - 7 months ago
  • A: The Homedics No Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer is designed to measure body, food, liquid, and room temperatures without direct contact. It provides readings in approximately two seconds and can store up to 50 results. While it is capable of measuring body temperature, non-contact infrared thermometers may not offer the precision required for tracking basal body temperature (BBT), which is typically measured with high accuracy to detect slight temperature changes. BBT is best monitored using a basal thermometer that measures temperature to two decimal places and is used immediately upon waking, before any activity.

Q: can I use this on my pet?

submitted by mebellamel - 8 months ago
  • A: The Homedics No Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer is designed primarily for use on humans, food, liquids, and room temperature. While it might provide a general surface temperature reading for your pet, it is not specifically calibrated for animals and may not give an accurate reflection of their internal body temperature.

Q: How far away do I take the temp?

submitted by BurgieHome - 8 months ago
  • A: For the Homedics No Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer, the recommended distance for taking a temperature reading is typically 0.5 to 2 inches (1 to 5 cm) from the target surface. Be sure to aim directly at the measurement area (such as the forehead for body temperature) for the most accurate results.

submitted by LAK - 2 years ago
  • A: From what you have described, it sounds like the low battery indicator is active. If changing the batteries did not solve your problem, then the product should be exchanged.

We bought this 3 months ago and it already will not read any body temp. It will read surface temps, but once placed in body temp mode it will not read. A lot of money spent on something that doesn't work.

We’re sorry to hear about the issue with your Homedics No Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer. It’s frustrating when a product stops working as expected, especially after such a short time. If the thermometer is not reading body temperature but works in other modes, try the following troubleshooting steps: Check the Battery: Ensure the batteries are fully charged or replace them with new ones. Low battery power can affect functionality. Clean the Sensor: Gently wipe the sensor lens with a soft, dry cloth to remove any dirt or debris that may be affecting readings.

As others have said, it’s very inconsistent. I got reads up to 108 on my 5 yr old then moments later 104, then 99. She’s undoubtedly febrile, but the variance is just ridiculous.

Not accurate. Took multiple readings within minutes, and they were all off by 1.5 degrees each direction. When dealing with a baby/toddler with high temperature, accuracy is the difference between monitoring at home, and an ER trip.

Readings change wildly even when nothing else does. It’s impossible to know if children are safe if they’re 102 at one reading and 104.9 at a reading taken seconds later. Is there any quality control? How does this cost so much and still perform so poorly? I paid for the most expensive thermometer in the store thinking I would get good quality, but I was so wrong.

I have no idea how there are any bad reviews here. I have returned 5 thermometers one at a time just trying to find a reliable one- simply needed to see if my kids are running high fevers. It has been so frustrating to see my kids suffering from fevers and not be able to tell what their temperature really is! At least without having to take it several times and average out different back to back readings or deal with readings that are completely incorrect like 97.1, when you can clearly tell your child is very warm. I started to lose hope that I could ever find a good working thermometer. This thermometer has not screwed up once since I got it a few days ago because my daughter is sick. It’s lightweight, there’s no obnoxious beeping (it beeps once), and because it is a no touch scan, I don’t have to put a thermometer under their tongues or even scan across their foreheads anymore nor do I have to wait for a reading and then do it several times to make sure the reading is accurate. Even more awesome is the fact that I can tell what their temperatures are while they are asleep! No waking them up. This thermometer has been perfect. Click and done. Can take 5 readings in a row. Then wait thirty seconds and it’s good to go for another 5. This has been such a relief to find and so easy to use. So glad I finally found a thermometer that works! It’s worth the $40 for peace of mind and skipping the stress of buying, using and returning one piece of crap thermometer after the other.

Only time I MAY be getting an accurate read is the first time I use it after it's been sitting in a drawer. Either everyone has the exact same temp or it lowers the temp with each click. If I'm spending so much on a thermometer I want it to actually work.
