Q: 2 Years ago someone some stated that a "plastic" smell was emitted from this humidifier. Does this unit, now in 2022, still emit a bad smell when running?
A: Thank you for your inquiry. Occasionally, new units can have a "plastic" smell from the plastic that the units come wrapped in. If you place the humidifier into a well ventilated area for a few hours, this will allow the smell to dissipate. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. Thank you.
submitted byManufacturer Tech Support - 3 years agoBrand expertA: mine had it for a few cycles then stopped . It wasnt terrible, obviously not pleasant but not a deal breaker . I dont like to smell chemicals but for the limited time it did it i felt like it was ok
submitted bytb - 2 years agoA: I just received my unit yesterday and can confirm that it does have an absolutely terrible stench. It was so bad that my roommate down the hall started yelling in disgust and asking what that smell was. I took it outside today and ran it on high for a couple hours but that did not help. I just put it back outside to run for longer, if I remember I will come back with an update.

Q: I just bought one of these today. When I started running it, the humidifier put a "plastic like" smell into the room. Will it continue to do this or is this something that should go away with continued use?
A: Thank you for your inquiry. Sometimes a new unit can have a plastic smell from the packaging. We would advise airing the unit out for a few hours in a well ventilated area and this should get rid of the smell. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.
submitted byManufacturer Tech Support - 5 years agoBrand expertA: Mine has continued to emit the smell, which is no doubt toxic, and I would recommend against purchasing this humidifier. They told me to run it for 12 to 24 hours straight on high power, which I had already done (I've had it a little more than a week) but did so again, and it didn't clear up the problem as they said it would. Absolutely unacceptable and probably dangerous to your health.
submitted byWillE - 4 years agoA: I wish I would have read these before I purchased it. I have been running mine for weeks now and the horrible chemical plastic stench will not go away. It angers me to see the reply about it being the plastic that it is wrapped in and don't want anyone to be fooled by it. The smell is coming from the unit itself and it's obvious. I took it apart and washed it and it did nothing. I'm very angry as I've always bought Honeywell and now I have to find a new humidifier brand.

Q: When I look up this humidifier on the Honeywell site, it says it’s compatible with use of the protec cleaning balls. But a tech support person answered someone else’s question below saying they were not compatible. Which is it?
A: Thank you for your inquiry! The Protec cleaning cartridge is designed for use with cool mist humidifiers, so it is not a recommended accessory for the Honeywell HWM845 Warm Mist Humidifier. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. For further assistance, please feel free to contact us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. We're here to help!

Q: What is the size of the tank?
A: This tank is a little bit smaller than one gallon. It is maybe 9/10 of a gallon. I tried 3 times to fill it from a one gallon bottle of water, and 1 gallon of water never fit in this tank.
submitted bydn - 3 years agoA: Thank you for your inquiry. This humidifier holds 1 gallon in the water tank. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. Thank you.

Q: what type of water do you use
A: If you use distilled water, it will not work at all. It BOILS the water and it gets very hot, so my whole house smelled like chlorine. I loved this machine except for that, and returned it.
submitted bydn - 3 years agoA: Thank you for your inquiry. You can use regular tap water with this unit. You can also use, or mix in, distilled water to reduce the mineral content of the water. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. Thank you.

Q: Can this be refilled from the top with a pitcher or do you have to pull off the whole container and turn upside down to fill it?
A: You must pull it off and turn it upside down to fill it. However, it has a great built in handle, very large easy open cap, and holds less than 1 gallon of water. So I found it very easy to fill.
submitted bydn - 3 years agoA: Thank you for your inquiry. This is not a top fill model. You must remove the tank from the unit in order to fill it. We hope this is helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We can be reached by emailing SocialSupport@kaz.com. Thank you.
