Q: Can redheads use this to cool down orange/brassy tones, too?

submitted by Mum23 - 6 months ago
  • A: Generally, Blue Crush Shampoo restores coolness, but red hair fades differently and needs more cool red tones added back. We advise using the John Frieda Radiant Red collection designed for red hair.

Q: Hi! Is this safe for blonde highlights? I'm naturally brunette, but I dye my roots dark ash blonde and have highlights all over my hair. Some reviews say it left their hair green.

submitted by Nice - 11 months ago
  • A: Blue Crush is safe for highlighted brunette hair. This is to be used every day until you reach desired level of toning, then alternate the Blue Crush Shampoo & your regular shampoo to maintain results

Does not work

I was really hopeful this would work based off other people’s reviews and pictures, but it has not made a difference on my hair. I have gotten highlights in my hair that have turned almost orangish and I’ve used this shampoo multiple times now with no change

I did a test strand on a human hair extension I have that is the same color as mine to see how it toned the brassiness. I put in on one section of towel dry hair, left it on for 10 minutes. You can clearly see the darker section where it toned out the brassy color. Exactly what I wanted. I used the same process on my hair and had similar results. This will stain your scalp, it does contain blue color. So just be mindful when you apply. Really happy with the results. I have also used the purple and wasn’t seeing a result, tried it on the same piece of extension and you can’t see it because the purple neutralizes yellow and blue neutralizes the orange.

Leaves residues on scalp

This shampoo leaves residue on my scalp, I use a shampoo brush to massage my scalp too and it still leaves the residue. I noticed a few days after washing my hair that my scalp became flakey and itchy, I itched and I get a mix of flake and blue stuff in my nails. I was teriffied. I've never had such a build up of product before, it was so scary and such a waste of money

I was using Joico blue shampoo and for some reason it stopped working. I was looking for a new blue shampoo but I didn’t want to spend a ton of money. To my point, I used it on dry hair right before jumping in the shower and left it on for 5 min. I lather it up and washed my hair has normal. I let my hair air dry and I am very happy with the result’s. I have natural dark brown and ashy highlights that sometimes turn orangey/bronde. I used and it worked wonders!!! Highly recommend this shampoo! The only thing negative about this shampoo, it does stain your hands. However, while I was in the shower I used a washcloth to rub off the blue. Otherwise it’s no biggie and the blue washes away easily.

Exceeded All Expectations

I was not paid or compensated in any way for this review. Honestly, I was a bit worried about using this product because of negative reviews . I'm glad I decided to use it as it works great after only 1 use, just as advertised. I had no issues with it staining anything. I used rubber gloves and rinsed everything very well. It is kind of thick, lathers up a lot and stays in place until you rinse it off. It has no smell at all that I can smell. Most importantly, it works! I'm stocking up on this product and recommend it to any brassy brunette. My normal color is dark blonde/brown/gray. I dyed it light brown which turned orange to my horror. Thank you for this awesome product!

I lightened my hair that turn out too dark. It looked almost black. I used a hi lift box dye to lighten. My hair turned reddish brown. I hated it so I bought this blue shampoo to get the red out. I used it after hi lighting my hair and left on any a few minutes per the directions. There was no difference. I used it the next day and left on for almost an hour. I washed it out and again, no difference. It does not do what it claims to do and now I have to find something else to get the reddish tint out of my hair.

Really helped tone down my newly highlighted and balayaged hair, I noticed results after a few uses. 3 weeks later and I love my hair now. Must use gloves in the shower. It will stain your nails and cuticles.

Hair felt clean after using this shampoo. With color treated hair, of course, you can’t use a detoxifying and/or clarifying shampoo so this was a great solution. Would buy again!

This does not work on my medium, dyed, brunette hair. Brassy, orange/red undertones are still very much there after 3 washes. I have left it in for 6 minutes each time. It also dyes my hands blue within seconds of touching it, and it has left color on my shower curtain. Not at all worth buying.

Had to stop and write a review! I have natural blonde hair with some highlights around my face. I decided to freshen the highlights around my face and made the mistake of toning it afterwards which I don’t usually do, well I used a vol 10 developer and accidentally lifted my natural roots to an orange. I tried purple shampoo but it didn’t work. I bought this on a whim and it made such a difference in the first wash! I’m soooooo happy! If your hair is orange, buy this. Before and after pics.

This is the best thing I've found to remove orange and pinkish tones from my lightened dark brown hair. I noticed a small change after using it once as directed (but on dry hair instead of wet), but it's gotten better with each use.
