Read this in one sitting on a 5 hr road-trip. Lately a few books I’ve been reading took me 50-100 pages to get into but this hooked me immediately from page 1. The whole book was like that for me it was such a page turner. How the writer was able to add humor in a thriller i don’t know but it was so well written! The story was very interesting because the narrator couldn’t remember what happened so we are unraveling the story along with her it just made you want to keep reading. Might be my favorite book of the year! Would recommend highly 5/5⭐️!

The Best Thriller I Have Read In YEARS!!!

The BEST thriller I have read in YEARS! This was my first Amy Tintera novel, but it surely will not be my last. As her first adult thriller novel this book had me invested from page one. I needed to know what was going to happen and “who done it” and just when I thought I had it figured out, nope, not in the least. What would you do if your best friend was murdered and everyone including your husband and parents thought you did it? The worst part is, you can’t even say for sure you didn’t do it because you have no memories of that one fatal night in the woods. The only thing you know is that you were with her and covered in her blood. This is Lucy’s life and has been for 5 very long years. This book had it all. Never a dull moment as I flipped through the pages. Everyone had their opinions about Lucy and although those opinions differed with each person being interviewed for Ben Owens True Crime Podcast, one thing remained the same, Lucy murdered her best friend, “The sweetest girl you ever met”, Savannah! Was Savannah, aka Savvy, the sweetest? Amongst all this darkness, Amy brings humor, sarcasm, and “laugh-out-loud moments into the story. How did she do this?!? Remarkably well. When I tell you there was not a word out of place in this book, I mean it. I was completely and utterly engaged and invested in Listen For The Lie. Non-stop action with twists and turns right up until the end.

Thank you!!! Thank you!!!! Holy smokes, thank you so much NetGalley and Macmillan audio for this audio ARC. I absofreakinglutely LOVED this story. I was so amused and immediately protective of Lucy and her grandma. Lucy’s intrusive thoughts might as well have been my own. I wasn’t sure if I should be scared for myself or not. January LaVoy and Will Damron are downright fabulous. I adore listening to them both!!!

Lucy's best friend, Savvy, was murdered and everyone think she did it. The police didn't have enough evidence to charge her, but pretty much everyone delivered a guilty verdict anyways. Lucy decided to leave the accusing glares of the townspeople in Texas for a more anonymous life in Los Angeles. Fast forward five years, and a hot shot podcaster is digging into the case. He desperately wants to interview Lucy, but there's a big problem - Lucy doesn't remember anything from the night of Savvy's murder. Will returning to her Texas hometown bring back her memories? Or is Lucy subconsciously suppressing the memory of that night because she's actually guilty? I could not put this book down!! What I loved: short chapters; Lucy's snark; Lucy's inner voice and thoughts (hilarious); unreliable characters; Beverly, the day drinking grandmother; twists and turns; and trying to figure out who murdered Savvy. And who doesn't love a book about a podcast? I was hooked in right from the beginning and couldn't wait to find out how it ended. Listen for the Lie was a quick read that will leave you guessing until the very end!

What would you do if you couldn't remember one of the most significant and horrible events of your life? When popular true crime podcaster takes interest in the worst day of Lucy's life, she is forced to relive and remember the horrible day her best friend Savvy was murdered. Lucy knows two things: she was there when her friend died and she was found injured and walking on the side of the road the next morning with no idea how she got there. Listen for the Lie is incredibly well-written and hooked me from the start. I love how the author slowly unravels Lucy's memories from the past and how no one is what they seem. The author made sure this book isn't like anything I had read before and kept me guessing until the end. I thought I had the story figured out up until the very end and was very, very wrong. I devoured this story over the course of a single day because I could not put it down. The twists and revelations kept me on my toes and wanting to learn more about the characters' relationships. I would absolutely recommend this book to those who love suspense and thrillers, but need something less formulaic as this story is a breath of fresh air into the genre.

5 out of 5 I really enjoyed this book. I like how we got current timeline and the transcripts for the podcast episodes. There were so many times I was certain I had figured this out, and I was completely wrong. I found Lucy’s personality absolutely hilarious. She could have let everyone thinking she murdered her best friend completely tear her down, but she found humor in it. Beverly might be my absolute favorite character though! I highly recommend this! I was hooked from the first page.

WOW, I'm not even sure I can put into words how much I loved this book! Amy Tintera has a new die-hard fan!! This book was not only the perfect thriller but OMG did I laugh!? I LOVE Lucy and her no-nonsense attitude. Imagine not knowing if you killed your best friend as you have no memory from that night. I can't even imagine what kind of tricks someone's brain would pull on them at that point.. so she stayed away, leaving town and heading for LA and trying to forget what she couldn't remember. Until her grandmother, Beverly, guilts her into coming home for her 80th birthday party and Lucy finds that a podcaster, Ben Owens, is also in town investigating her best friend, Savvy's murder for his true crime podcast, Listen for the Lie. Meanwhile, Lucy is stuck dealing with the whispers and rumors around town from those who simply don't believe her and think she did it. But how could she? She loved Savvy, she was her only real friend and they were thick as thieves. But she is the only one who knows what happened that night and she still can't remember these 5 years later. All they know is that she is the one who survived, found covered in blood, a weapon in hand, and no memory of what happened. And Ben keeps pushing her to remember, digging for the truth. Or the lie...

This was the best thriller I’ve read in a while. I absolutely loved the sarcastic humor that Lucy and her grandmother both had. It made this book less heavy, which is hard to do with a suspenseful thriller. The premise of the suspected murderer having no memory of the events was also unique to me. And once all the memories and timeline of events started falling into place, I was dying to see how it ended. And the ending still took me by surprise. I didn’t want this book to end.

Listen For the Lie is a totally bingeable read, and I freaking loved it! I almost never get to binge a book, but I honestly couldn’t put this one down. My only qualm is that Lucy’s questionable choices in her love life were a little annoying. Otherwise, I was completely on the edge of my seat the whole time. There was never a dull moment. This book will reel you in immediately and have you in a trance until the very. Last. Page. Ohh… and the unapologetic humor throughout the book was fantastic!!! I love dark humor and this book was full of it. This is an absolute must read for 2024! Order your copy today!

WHAT A BOOK! This is the debut adult novel from Amy Tintera, and I hope it's not the last. Listen for the Lie is a story that follows Lucy Chase. Lucy had it all: the "dream" husband, Matt, a beautiful home, and loving family and friends, including Savannah (Savvy). However, this all changes one night. After a wedding, Lucy is found wandering the streets with a head injury, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood. Lucy can’t remember anything about her best friend’s murder; however, everyone in her small town thinks she’s lying about the course of events, including Lucy’s own parents. The police can’t charge her because there is little evidence. Now divorced, Lucy moves to Los Angeles to start a new life. One day, Lucy’s grandmother, Beverly, calls and asks her to come home for her 80th birthday. This is all a ruse to get Lucy to talk with Ben Owens, the host of the popular true crime podcast Listen for the Lie, who has decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the second season of the podcast. Lucy reluctantly revisits the location she swore never to return to, compelled to unravel the mystery of her friend's murder, even if she might be the one responsible. I thoroughly enjoyed this book; it did not disappoint and was a quick read. The novel was action-packed and suspenseful. Every chapter kept me wanting more. Tintera’s ability to integrate the podcast episodes at the right time in the book was brilliant. Be sure to pick up this book out today!

FIVE. STARS. You need to read this book! Pub date 3.5.24 , thank you Celadon and NetGalley for my advanced copy. This book is a comedic mystery/podcast/whodunnit with all the dark humor and wit you could possibly ask for. We are in Lucy’s POV, five years after her best friend Savvy was murdered. Everyone in her small town in Texas blames her because she was found wandering around with Savvy’s blood all over her dress. But Lucy has amnesia and literally can’t remember the night. Ben is the host of a podcast called Listen for the Lie, and he spends some time in Lucy’s town interviewing her friends and family trying to help solve the case. This book introduces a lot of people, but it was written so well that not once did I get confused at who was who. Lucy’s personality was unhinged, and I loved hearing her thoughts, multiple times I was cracking up. I was so invested in the story, I didn’t want it to end!! I will absolutely recommend this book to all my thriller friends. Quote from literally the first page. “It’s an apology chicken, for my boyfriend. It’s like that engagement chicken. The one women make to persuade their boyfriends to propose? Except this is a ‘sorry I didn’t tell you I’m the prime suspect in my friend’s murder’ chicken. Apology chicken, for short.” I would recommend for fans of The Night Swim & None Of This Is True. Read if you love: -podcast transcripts -dark humor/wit -amnesia pov -small town unsolved murder

Listen for the Lie is definitely a top thriller contender for 2024. Wow, this was good. If you are looking for your next great true whodunit, this is it. Those pesky true crime podcasters, out there literally solving cold cases with true diligence and a mind for details. Ben Owens has his heart setting on solving the mystery behind Savvy’s death. The title is perfect. The exploration of what is the truth and what is a lie - phenomenal and mindbending. Quick, page-turning chapters, speedy pacing, characters that get under your skin, good and bad; Listen for the Lie is just plain fun, and I’m certain I’ll be seeing this one on many year-end favorites lists including my own. I received a gifted copy.
