the gripper is a no go, and be careful. on the first use the potato slipped off causing a chain of fast invents that took a deep chunk out of my thumb. now horrible nerve pain.

Great product. As long as you use the protective attachment, and not your bare hand to hold the food, you will not get hurt. This device is very sharp, as it should be to cut vegetables. Would purchase again.

Easy & Safe Slicer - comes with guard to protect fingers. Slices are thin, even on largest setting. Gets the job done quickly

Disappointed. Plastic protector broke into small pieces on first use. Perhaps was defective but I would not recommend.

A good home use mandoline with reasonable safety features
It has great safety features built in, it’s affordable, and it makes certain recipes (like scalloped potatoes) enjoyable to make instead of a tedious chore. It comes with a little topper with a textured “gripper” that can hold your food in place while you slide it against the mandoline. This is super nice because it means your fingers literally never need to come near the (extremely sharp) blade. The top piece is a rectangle, you want the wider side to always be what’s going on - if you do it the narrow way, the lips will catch the “settings” lever and move your settings up/down or even lock it. I also always cut my vegetables so I have a completely flat surface to start with, instead of starting with a rounded edge. This topper also doubles as a cover so when you store it you don’t have an exposed blade. Underneath the blade there is a plastic sleeve. It means I can safely store this mandoline in my “various kitchen tools” drawer without much anxiety. I mentioned it also has settings. It can be 1,2 or 3 thickness. Not sure if that measures out to millimeters or just arbitrary “levels”. I use the 1 for scalloped potatoes. I use the 3 for radishes and carrots. I’ve yet to find something where I need the “2”. I like the off position as well, that brings that bottom plastic cover into position like I was mentioning. I hand wash and it’s very simple. For the most part just a sudsy rinse is enough. This thing is still crazy crazy sharp and you should absolutely not let your kids use it, and you should pay attention while using it. The one star I took off is because I see the other reviewers who use the topper facing the wrong direction and also sometimes have thin bits at the end of my pieces get stuck and I use a fork to get them “unstuck” from the half chopped purgatory by the sharp blade. Ultimately, it is still a mandoline and mandolines are one of the easiest kitchen gadgets to hurt yourself with. This one has some easy safety features that make me feel more confident in using it, and I’ve been using it at least monthly for almost three years now without injury or significant wear and tear from it. So I think it was a great addition to my kitchen without being more expensive.

Not a safe slicing tool
Sliced the tip of my pinky on this tool. I’m very careful in the kitchen. This my very first injury in the kitchen :( this is NOT a safe tool and immediately went in the trash.

Be sure to use the holder when slicing. I failed to do so and sliced my finger wide open.

Be Careful
Dangerous design. Be really careful if you decide to purchase. I cut two fingers pretty bad while using this. I'm going to try a different design for a mandolin.

Great product
This is a great gadget. What I don’t like is the guard to hold the vegetables, I couldn’t get a potato to hold on well and so I used without and just stopped once I was about an inch or so from the blade. A small amount of food waste but I’ve definitely enjoyed using it. I have 2 of them, one for my house and one at the boyfriend’s.

Mandoline
This item is very sharp. Should come with mesh gloves. First time used we ended up at urgent care. The vegetable slipped off the holder and ended up slicing off the top of users finger.

Not impressed
I have used this 5-10 times, and was only satisfied with the product one of those times. While slicing, the guard keeps slipping from the "1" level, to "3", then to the "locked" position, making slicing impossible. Now, it is also simultaneously contaminating my food with black plastic bits. I expect better from the OXO brand.

Too sharp. Hazard
Works well. But bothy husband and I sliced chunks of our fingers off immediately after using. The blade is way sharper than it ever needs to be

PROCEED WITH CAUTION
Within minutes of opening this I was in the urgent care for a sliced pinky. Learn from me and do NOT use this without a Kevlar glove or using the attachment that comes with it. I had a difficult time getting it to stick in the onion so I didn’t use it. LEARN FROM ME. I had half of an onion left and bam blood everywhere!!!

Did the job for me
Had been thinking of getting a mandoline for a while & finally took the plunge on this one. So far I have only used it once ( just purchased it yesterday) but it was a breeze to use on the sweet potatoes I needed to slice. I wasn't sure it was working the first few swipes since it cut the sweet potatoes so effortlessly I had to double check the bowl. Took off a star because the sweet potatoes stained the white plastic even though I immediately cleaned when i was done using it

Ok.
The grips to hold onto the food is small and plastic (so weak), so you have to go slowly to keep it from falling off. It does have somewhat of a guard, but it is still a little risky. Blade is sharp.

Keeping it simple
I got this to replace the more elaborate OXO Mandoline, which was an absolute pain to clean. This one does the job just as well, and can be cleaned with minimal fuss.

I just wanted sliced cucumber
I dislike that I’m typing with my left thumb. Because my right is bandaged. The food holder held nothing and slips, needs serious redesign. Unfortunate, because I can attest that the blade is formidable against a variety of textures, like cucumbers, fingers, and hard gel manicured nails.
