A: All lava lamps get hot. This is my fourth one. It's important that you take care not to move the lamp while it's on, but if it truly needs to be moved while the lamp is on, get a kitchen towel or a potholder to carefully move it in a safe place or distance, especially from children and pets. Also, read the instruction manual as every lamp has a time limit. For instance, mine can be left on for eight hours at a time and then cooled off before it can be on again. I typically turn these on at nights and then turn it off before bedtime. If it's on for longer than what the manual recommends, it could destroy the gel inside and possibly the lamp itself. According to the lava lamp website regarding safety, "Lava lamps are generally very safe to use as long as you follow the manufacturer’s instructions and take a few sensible precautions before and during use." Didn't Work
Really wanted this to work. My son has been wanting a lava lamp. Snagged this. Plugged it in per instructions. Started to warm up and then 'pop' the lamp went out. Checked the bulb--it was fine. Plugged other things in the outlet--fine. Plugged the lamp in other outlets--nothing. Was forced to return it. May try another one when we get a chance.

Broke quickly
Broke quickly - bought for my child for Christmas, bulb burned out the next day, replaced it and within two days it’s broken. There’s a bracelet looking object floating in it that I assume is not supposed to be floating in there- assuming it’s the culprit. Very disappointing. Outside of return window because I bought so early, in October, even though was for a Christmas present so has barely used it.

No movement after 6 months.
The lava stopped moving around 6 months after use. My son would have it on almost every night for ~8 hours. I read some troubleshooting tips when the movement stopped: Make sure the coil spring is centered at the bottom and don’t keep it on 24 hours/day, which we never did. I looked into getting a glass lava bottle replacement, as the bottom part that hold the light bulb still works perfectly, but it would be the same price as a new one. Unfortunate and has been thrown away.

3 useless lava lamps
I bought 3 of these, all different colors, at the same time. 1 for my son’s best friends birthday and one for each of my kids as their new nightlight. My sons stopped working working 2 weeks. My daughters shortly after and the friends a few months after. The light still turns on. Everything warms up, the lava just has hardened and settled in a clump. I’m really disappointed.

Bulb died
Was working perfectly fine for the first day, then the bulb that came with it burnt out. Now I have a useless lava lamp that I need to invest more money into within a day of purchasing.
