    Terrible product

Terrible product! It's great until you actually have to change the blade as so many other reviewers stated. Sure wish I would have read these first. No matter what I do or how I attempt to seat the blade it without fail will wiggle as soon as I use it. I am literally cutting light weight foam....it should NOT pull out every time I pull the blade out. And yes I read all of customer service comments on how to change the blade and I even read the comments about making sure the nub is aligned in the collar and it is. Just terrible product with a design flaw somewhere. Definitely returning this thing

    Blade wont stay on holder

I came to the reviews to check if this is only on the holder, it slips off and it’s imposssible to use as a precision knife. Quite dangerous as well, when you are trying to fix the blade and try to lock it to the pen shaped holder.

Thanks for letting us know. The detail knife is meant for precise tasks, and the blade should lock securely in the holder. If it’s slipping, that’s a safety concern. Loose blade

The blade comes out and will not stay stable when you put it back in. Dangerous
1 reply from FiskarsProductExpert team - 2 months ago
You can try this: when inserting a new blade, be sure it’s seated fully into the slot before tightening the collar. Hold the blade firmly in place as you twist the handle to lock it—if it’s not lined up correctly, it can feel loose. Also double-check that the locking mechanism is snug but not over-tightened, since too much force can affect the fit. If the blade still won’t stay secure after this, the tool may need replacement: https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/customer-service/warranties

    Blade was unstable

I’m not sure if it was user error, but the blade kept coming tilting with use. I would have to continuously readjust it. Regardless of how annoying? It helped me get my project done a lot faster than if I used scissors. Would I buy this tool again? Yes. Would it be a different brand? Yes.
1 reply from FiskarsProductExpert team - 3 months ago
Thanks for sharing your experience. The blade tilt issue isn’t typical and sounds frustrating—our design aims for a stable, reliable cut every time. It’s good to hear it still helped speed up your project, though. If you feel you're seating the blade into the handle incorrectly, do the following: Align the base of the #11 blade with the slot in the handle. Ensure the blade is facing the correct direction: the cutting edge should be pointing outward. Slide the blade into the slot until it is fully seated. Twist the metal neck clockwise to tighten and lock the blade in place. Ensure the blade is snug and does not wiggle. If you've followed these steps and the blade still moves or tilts, there may be an issue with the handle's locking mechanism. In that case, you can file a claim here: https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/customer-service/warranties

    missing part(s) ?

Manufacturing appears to have omitted a means to retain the blade in the holder. These blades depend on mechanical stops and friction to secure them in place. The tooled two-piece blade holder with spring and collar retainer has a cupped indentation on both sides that appear to be designed to hold a part that the spring can press into the blade hole to keep the blade from moving. However, there is no ball bearing or similar part in the indented space, so there is nothing to keep the blade secure after installation. Friction alone doesn't work.

    Awesome Craft Knife

I figured out the blade problem. There are 2 sets of slots forming a plus sign (+). One set of slots is significantly wider than the other set. If you place the blade into the wider slot, it will not hold. Place the blade into the narrow slot and it will hold perfectly.

Nice sharp blade that is impossible to replace. The problem is that it won’t stay seated. No amount of twisting will seat it even though it is in the proper place. I hate this product.

    Straight Stupid

This is utterly absurd. I fancy myslef a reasonably intelligent and resaonably handy dude, and I cannot get this dang blade to hold secure. Zero chance I change my rating...I'm not the first with this complaint. Update before submission....I was not allowed to use the word we would all assume when seeing "dang"...it got flagged for "profanity" If Fiskars wants profanity, please give me a call as I try to perform the child's task of changing a blade. I can assure you....not intuitive. Why instructions were included (for somethign that should be an example of "self explanatory") is absolutely beyond me. Should I throw the stupid thing away and get another? Repeated this each time I need to change the blade?

Here are some tips to help with changing the blade on the Fiskars Softgrip Detail Knife: Unlock the Blade: Most likely, the issue is with unlocking the blade before removing it. Look for a blade release mechanism near the base of the knife. It may be a sliding button or a button that needs to be pressed to release the blade. Remove the Old Blade: Once the blade release is triggered, the blade should slide out of the handle. Be sure to grip the blade by its edges, not the sharp part, to avoid injury. Insert the New Blade: Take the new blade and carefully align the blade holder slot with the blade. Make sure it's facing the right direction, and gently slide it into place. Secure the Blade: After inserting the blade, push it in until it locks into place. You should hear or feel a click when it’s secure. If the blade doesn't lock, try adjusting the position slightly to make sure it fits properly. Test the Mechanism: Before using the knife, gently tug on the blade to make sure it is securely locked in place. If it's loose, repeat the steps or check for any obstructions in the blade slot. If these tips don't resolve the issue, please reach out to our customer service team at warranty@fiskars.com, and we'd be happy to assist you further!

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the Fiskars Softgrip Detail Knife. Here are a few suggestions that might help: ensure the blade is properly installed and securely tightened. Sometimes, the blade can come loose if not correctly positioned. Make sure the locking mechanism is fully engaged. This can help keep the blade in place during use. Regularly check and maintain the knife to ensure all parts are functioning correctly. This includes cleaning any debris that might affect the blade’s stability. If the problem persists, consider reaching out to customer service (warranty@fiskars.com).

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Fiskars Softgrip Detail Knife. We’re truly sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with the blade not staying in place. To help ensure the blade stays securely in position, try the following tips: Ensure Full Insertion: Make sure the blade is fully inserted into the knife holder. If it’s not seated all the way, it could cause it to loosen. Tighten the Blade Mechanism: Check the mechanism that holds the blade in place and tighten it securely. If your model has an adjustable screw, make sure it’s tightened properly to avoid any movement. Check for Damage: Inspect the blade or holder for any damage or wear that might be causing it to come loose. If the parts are worn, it could affect the blade's security. If the issue persists despite these steps, please contact our customer service team (warranty@fiskars.com), and we’ll be happy to assist with a solution.

Thank you for your feedback on the Fiskars Softgrip Detail Knife. We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with the blade not staying in place. To ensure the blade stays securely in position, try these tips: Ensure Proper Insertion: Make sure the blade is fully inserted into the knife holder, as an incomplete insertion can cause it to loosen. Check the Blade Lock: If your model has a locking mechanism, ensure it’s engaged properly to hold the blade firmly. Tighten the Blade Holder: If the holder has any screws, gently tighten them to make sure the blade is secured in place. Avoid Excessive Force: Applying too much pressure during use can sometimes cause the blade to shift. Use light, controlled strokes for best results. We hope these tips help resolve the issue. Great! ....just never change the blade.

Bought this several months ago and was very happy with it....until I changed the blade. Now it won't hold any blade still. As soon as I press down to cut, the blade shifts and tilts back so much it's awkward to use and I can't put the cap on. I can't figure out why it's doing it. My only thought is that the manufacturer can get it as tight as it's required to hold it, which to me says a design issue. If I'm doing something wrong, I can't find any good resources as to specific troubleshooting or instructions on how to change the blade correctly. Overall it was great, just never change the blade and apparently you'll be fine.

Thank you for your detailed review and for sharing your experience with the Fiskars Softgrip Detail Knife. We're glad to hear it worked well for you initially, but we’re sorry to learn about the issues after changing the blade. It’s possible that the blade is not seating properly in the knife, which could cause it to shift during use. Here’s how to correctly change the blade on the Fiskars Softgrip Detail Knife: Steps for Blade Replacement: Loosen the Collar: Twist the metal collar near the blade counterclockwise to loosen it. This will release the blade from the blade holder. Remove the Old Blade: Carefully slide the old blade out. Be cautious when handling it to avoid cuts. Insert the New Blade: Align the new blade with the holder, ensuring it fits snugly into the groove or slot provided. The blade should sit flat and straight without wobbling. Tighten the Collar: Twist the collar clockwise to secure the blade in place. Make sure it's tightened firmly to prevent the blade from shifting during use. Test the Blade Stability: Before using, gently press the blade against a surface to ensure it doesn’t tilt or move. If it does, tighten the collar further. Tips: Double-check that the blade is the correct size and type for the knife. If the blade still shifts after following these steps, inspect the blade holder and collar for damage or wear. Always use caution when changing and testing the blade to avoid injuries. If you continue to experience issues, it may be a manufacturing defect or wear over time, and reaching out to customer service for assistance might be helpful: https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/customer-service/warranties

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Fiskars Softgrip Detail Knife. We’re sorry to hear about your frustration and that the blade doesn’t stay securely locked. This isn’t the experience we want for our users, especially with a tool designed for precision and reliability. It sounds like the blade retention mechanism may not be functioning as intended. While the collar should securely hold the blade in place, occasional defects or wear can impact its performance. If you haven’t already, you might try the following: Check the Collar: Ensure the collar is tightened firmly when the blade is inserted. Sometimes an extra turn can help secure the blade better. Inspect the Blade Slot: Look for any debris or misalignments in the blade holder that might prevent proper locking. Replacement or Warranty: If the knife still fails to perform as expected, it could be a defect. We recommend contacting customer service to explore warranty options or a replacement: https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/customer-service/warranties

    Unsafe and useless

Blade falls out and never secures again after that. I tried for a while. Does NOT cut thin plastic like it promises. Blade broke at tip with minimal pressure within seconds. Completely useless for anything but paper! Lasted less than 5 minutes. Wouldn’t purchase again even if it was the last option. Unsafe as all get out because the blade doesn’t stay in the holder. Watch your fingers!
