But all is not as it seems. Two men, each with his own agenda, have followed her to Mesquite Springs. And Gabe is an investigator, searching for proof that her father is a swindler. When a series of apparent accidents threaten her life, Alexandra and Gabe will have to work together to discover the truth. And perhaps along the way they will discover that the sparks of attraction they've felt from the beginning are more than sparks--they're love.

A Perfect Conclusion to a Great Historical Series

The Spark of Love by Amanda Cabot is the third and final book in the Mesquite Springs series. Like the other books in the series, this story is full of danger, mystery, sweet romance, and a beautiful historic landscape. Throughout this series, I have fallen in love with Mesquite Springs, Texas. It is a charming small town with generous and compassionate characters who will steal your heart. I loved Alexandra from the very beginning for her bravery and intelligence. And the more I got to know her loving heart, the more I kept cheering her on through all her troubles. Gabe was an excellent hero. Handsome, no doubt. But the story highlighted how perfect he was in what really counts--honor, compassion, love, and honesty. I loved how he could see Alexandra for the amazing woman she was. Overall, this was an exciting story that kept my attention chapter after chapter. I'm sorry to not be able to visit Mesquite Springs again, but I am looking forward to the author's next series. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Wonderful Historical Romance!

Author Amanda Cabot has penned an intriguing and satisfying conclusion to her Mesquite Springs series. She introduces us to newcomers who are plagued by problems and secrets, and I especially enjoyed catching up with the people that I'd met in the first two books. The Spark of Love has conflict, mystery, and romance, but there's also a strong message of hope, love, and forgiveness woven into the story. This is historical Christian romance that you'll definitely want to read and savor! I received a copy of this book through Revell Reads. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Mystery, Thrills & Love!

It is 1857, and Alexandra is on the run. A very dangerous man has demander her to marry him because he has found out about the large inheritance she will get. After following an elaborate plan to escape him, she sped to the small Texas town her absentee father is in. Alexandra is sure he will protect her, but her dad tries hard to get her to leave. Despite that, the town is charming and she stays. She makes good friends, but she also observes her dad's suspicious behavior. Alexandra wonders if her dad has ever loved her. She constantly questions why her dad has found it hard to care for her. Then things begin to happen in her life. Is someone trying to hurt her? Did the man she was running from track her down? Or does this have something to do with her father's questionable actions? Alexandra's story will keep you turning the pages to find out. Additionally, she meets Gabe, the first man she has ever been interested in, but he has secrets of his own that could keep them apart. The tale is told from a Christian viewpoint and is clean. I recommend this five-star book to fans of tales of the Old West, along with mysteries with romance sprinkled in. Don't miss this one! Revell Books has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, The Spark of Love, for the purpose of review.

Wonderful Christian Historical Fiction

The Spark of Love, by Amanda Cabot, is book three in The Mesquite Spring series. This story does follow after the previous stories so it is best to read this series in order. In this story we meet the Tarkington family and those who are interested in them. Alexandra flees her home in New York to get away from a very demanding man who wants to marry her. She go to be with her father, who is building a hotel. Meanwhile others are trying to find her to gain control of her money. This is a wonderful story that is well written and easy to imagine. The story is filled with suspense, some mystery, friendships and romance. I especially enjoyed how willing Alexandra is to help others, with teaching children in school and taking over some responsibilities at the hotel. Her struggle with forgiveness is so real and easy to understand. I enjoyed catching up with the other wonderful characters from previous books as well. I do wish the author would make one more story to tell Laura's story though. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story, this is my honest review.

Forgiveness and Reconciliation

5 out of 5 stars

An amazing conclusion to the Mesquite Springs series that will leave you not wanting it to end as the characters feel like old friends. Ms. Cabot always delivers a solid read of historical romance with a careful balance of mystery and suspense. Her unsavory characters can have you on the edge of your seat at times. In this installment you are as confused as Alexandra trying to determine who can be trusted. I found myself absorbed into Alexandra’s life and wanting to give her a big hug. It is a story of family hurts, finding and giving forgiveness, and new beginnings. You will envision the town of Mesquite Springs and want to live there. I loved that I was able to revisit old friends from the previous books as well as finding new favorites within these pages. One of my favorite parts was when the Pastor gave his sermon on anger and how it can destroy from the inside. I highly recommend The Spark of Love as well as the series. This is one of my go to authors that never disappoints. I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Truly Enjoyed

Set in the mid-1850s in a small town in Texas, The Spark of Love is not only a story of romantic love, but also the deep love of close friendships and the love of parents and their children, even if the children are now adults. The story also deals with the vital importance of trust and forgiveness in any type of loving relationship. The suspense element of this book deals with greed and how far some people are willing to go to fulfill their own selfish desires. I was in chapter twenty before I fully sorted out all the bad actors, but that only added to the drive to keep reading. While this is the third book in Cabot's Mesquite Springs series, it does work well as a stand-along read. I highly recommend this book and series. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of The Spark of Love from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Great historical fiction

This is the first book from this author that I have had the privilege to read. It's book 3 and now I definitely will have to find books 1 & 2! But that being said, book 3 is fine on it's own and I just loved it! I love Texas historical fiction because I have so many ancestors that settled here in those rough times. So that in itself is a huge draw for me. I loved this book. It was Texas, it was romance, and definitely mystery! What a great combination. The characters are great. I can certainly see trying to get away from gold digger suitors, who only are in a relationship just to see what's in it for them! This book was a page turner, without a doubt. After various strangers arrive in Mesquite Springs, it is interesting to see how the story will develop. I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishing and was not required to post a positive review. All Thoughts are my own.

slow start

3 out of 5 stars

I was so looking forward to reading the last book in the Mesquite Springs series. I had enjoyed the first two books. I was disappointed in this book. It seems like there was a steady decline in my favor of these books. First, it was too hard to understand with the almost immediate introductions of all the characters. It was hard to keep them straight. I think it would have been better to leave out some of them as some seemed to have the same part in the story. A very similar plot. Second, I hope this is something they fix as I read an ARC book. The problem was not a break in the layout to warn you that the scene had changed. I'd be reading along and the scene would change in the very next sentence. Sometimes it was the same character speaking but to another person. That was very disconcerting and hard to follow. The story did not flow well until the last quarter of the book. It was hard to follow. Because of these things, I only give this a 3 out of 5-star review. If these issues are corrected the book will be a lot better. I asked to read and review this book through the Revell Reads program. All thoughts are my own, personal opinion.
