Q: do you keep it on when you are cooking. If the pan is to go in the oven do you then remove the handle?

A: We recommend removing the silicone handles while cooking on a gas cooktop. The flames can heat the silicone and become uncomfortably hot. We also recommend that you use caution when using the silicone handle holders above higher heat settings for long periods of time, regardless of the type of cooktop. The silicone products are not made for oven use. Our silicone hot handle holders are for stovetop use, sliding it on or off the product when needed. (Be sure to not leave the handle holder on when cooking over open flames!)

I got this as a replacement for one from 2 years ago, also by Lodge. The old one gradually got hotter as I cooked, and it eventually got singed at the end near the pan. I expect this one will do the same. I'm no materials engineer, but it'd be nice if they could make them more durable. Instead of leaving this one on the pan, I plan to keep it near the stove, slip it on when I have to pick something up, & then take it ifff right away

Hot handle holder
Slowly Slips off when you’re holding the cast iron and trying to move it from stove top to the oven. Not safe at all.
