Comfortable but ineffective

I had high hopes and really wanted to stop using tampons. I’ve tried a menstrual cup from a different brand in the past, and it never stayed in well. So I thought I’d give the disc a try. It was really comfortable, but always leaked. I couldn’t get it to stay tucked in my pubic bone, no matter how many ways I tried inserting it. Maybe I need a different size, but it just didn’t work for me and I’m getting discouraged. It came with a cute bag and I really wanted to love it!

I have tried two different brands of cups before and they did not work for me. I could not get them to seal and they were uncomfortable. I absolutely am loving the disk! I can’t feel it at all and no leaks thus far (it’s been 3 days). I struggled with removing it the first two times as it got stuck behind my pubic bone. Now that I have a bit of practice, it is much easier to remove.

Needs removal aid

To start, I definitely ordered the wrong size (Small), I thought a smaller size would be easier for me to get in. It was, but then the trouble was getting it out, I REALLY had trouble (I did get it out, but not without great effort). However, the problem would have been the same even if it was the correct size: removal. The notch isn’t very helpful if you can’t really get a grip on it. I needed to get a finger and thumb inside (a difficult task for me, personally) and get enough space worked up to open them to actually pinch it and pull it out. Hooking wasn’t possible because it just kept catching and dragging on the pubic bone. I know the size wouldn’t have made a difference because I had the same problem with the Cora Soft Fit Disc, which is about the size of Saalt Disc Regular. I’ve been trying a lot of reusable menstrual products — including this one, I’m up to 4, and I have 3 more on the way to try — and still have yet to find one that works for me, but I’ll keep trying! The Saalt Teen Cup is one of my products on the way; here’s hoping that could be the one that works for me! Background, if that helps anyone: 31-year old virgin, doesn’t masturbate, possibly has vaginismus, can have trouble getting tampons in if they’re any bigger than a regular, especially if they don’t have a plastic applicator.

I love this product I’m never going back to tampons or pads ever again this is literally like life changing. Just a warning it is messy and different than tampons but you can wear it up to 12 hours and during nighttime so that’s awesome!

A high cervix must!

Have a high cervix? The disc is a must. I tried a cup but found them incredibly difficult to remove having a high cervix. This disc is so soft and can’t feel a thing inside. I find it a little uncomfortable to place but I think that is part of my own learning curve. Can still be hard to reach but if you “bear down” while pulling it slips right out! Changed my life!!

I'm pretty pleased with this little coral disc. I've had trouble with cups in the past and wanted to find an alternative. First removal was insanely difficult and took a few hours. If you're new to the disc then I'd recommend putting aside the extra time for insertion and removal to take away any stress factors! Since then I'd say it is pretty plain sailing. No leaks. Reduced cramps. I read up a few methods for insertion if you have a low cervix which helped as mine changes position a lot. Again, no issues once you can feel the disc sitting in the right place. I've got some period pants as well which helped take away any anxiety about initial positioning troubles. I think this will be a solid replacement. Fingers crossed next month is even better.

Cup > Disc

I prefer the saalt cup over the disc. The disc is really hard to get out and you have to dig around to try and find the the little divet where you’re supposed to pull with. As long as you get it in and positioned the right way tho, it is very leak proof.

This is a great alternative to tampons and pads; you can leave it in longer, there are no leaks, and it doesn’t feel like you’re on your period. I swear I have experienced less period symptoms since switching from chemical products to this disc. I have not touched a pad or tampon since trying the disc. I love that I am no longer spending money on more products and always sleeping comfortably throughout the night. The idea of the placement can be intimidating, but- you got this! Try it! You’ll never go back!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m so impressed with this company! I purchased the travel kit along with the Saalt Disc in regular size, but found it a bit too large. Customer service was amazing and sent me the small disc at no extra cost. The smaller size has been perfectly comfortable, completely leak-proof, and a real game changer for managing my heavy periods. I’d highly recommend it!

Best period product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am loving using the disc, having used a cup for over a year, I thought I would give the disc a go as felt my cervix would move down towards the end of my period making the cup sit lower down and sometimes I was aware it was there. You wouldn’t even know the disc was in as unable to feel it at all, and it is very easy to insert. Found easier to put in place than the cup. Holds more and feeling more confident as go to the gym a lot. Will continue using discs now.

Even better than a cup

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I switched from tampons to the Lunette Cup 7 years ago. The cup was 10x more comfortable and convenient. Three months ago I got the Saalt Disc. It is even more comfortable than using a cup, once its in there is not an ounce of discomfort its incredible. Mine self emptied, which is the most amazing thing. As for the mess free sex. . . deep penetration on day one of my cycle (which is quite heavy) did end up with small mess and slightly dislodging the disc. I had to take it out the next morning and reinsert it because of the leaking. But medium penetration on day 3 (med/low flow) had was mess free and had no effect on the fit of the disc. I REALLY love this disc and would recommend it to anyone.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a second time post-partum mom, cups didn’t fit me as well anymore and I knew I didn’t want period underwear to be my primary. The disc was comfortable and much easier to position correctly compared to a cup. I paired it with period underwear as a backup. No leaks! I can’t believe I waited this long to try it. It makes periods far less stressful and messy.

Great for postpartum weak pelvic floor

5 out of 5 stars
Lori S. - 3 months ago
originally posted on saalt.com
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was an avid cup user for 4 years before becoming pregnant. After my son was born I tried using my trusty cup but my pelvic floor no longer has the muscle tone to prevent a cup from leaking anymore. Plus, I also opted for an IUD for birth control postpartum and it’s generally advised not to use a cup with an IUD in place. So down the rabbit hole I went and learned that discs exist (I didn’t know about them at all before)! I purchased the regular size saalt disc to try and it felt super odd at first because I was so used to how a cup works. I wasn’t totally confident in placement the first few times I used it but very quickly learned what works for me and what doesn’t. I only had leaks during my first postpartum period but it was definitely from me trying to learn how to use it, not because of the product itself. I’ve used it for 5 cycles and now that I understand it better, I feel super confident popping it in and out to dump and clean. It’s so easy to use and I’m really happy with it. I do find that, for my body, the notch tends to slowly rotate to the side throughout the day but it’s generally very easy to find and move so that I can grab the notch when I want to remove the disc. Very happy with this product and will continue using it every cycle!

Too small to remove

3 out of 5 stars
Caroline S. - 3 months ago
originally posted on saalt.com
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So I am an obgyn and recently purchased a small Saalt disc. Unfortunately, even though I have a light period and have never had a vaginal birth, the small size seems to be too small for me. No leaks. No discomfort. But almost impossible to remove. And I’m used to navigating vaginas! So I’m not sure if sizing up would help, but I would definitely stay away from the small cup as it’s so high up there, it’s a pain to try to take out.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sadly this disc didn't really work for me. I have a very low cervix. It just about fits but I find the rim of the disc too firm and it's giving me a lot of discomfort. Good brand otherwise, just doesn't fit my body sadly!
