  • A: To manually empty the dust cup on the PowerDetect cordless stick vacuum, detach the handheld vacuum from the wand by pressing the wand release button. Position the dust cup over a trash receptacle, then press the dust cup release slide on the left side of the handheld vacuum. Tap gently to empty contents. Remove any debris or hair from the cone-shaped screen inside the dust cup. Wipe the interior of the dust cup clean if needed. To manually remove the dust cup itself, press the trash icon to remove the dust cup from the unit. Also, by removing the dust cup, you have access to the 2 pre-motor foam filters and the post-motor HEPA filter to clean them and keep your vacuum's optimal suction performance.

I have two complaints about this vacuum -- the first is that it doesn't work smoothly on some of my carpets. It becomes impossible to push in certain directions making it useless as a vacuum for those. Second -- the tiny foam& felt filters get clogged immediately. They don't even get through my whole house before they are completely caked and dirt/dust is all the way through. I have the clean and empty base and that filter is also caked through and I can't find replacements for it. This machine is not cheap, so having two major problems like this is not acceptable.

We received the vacuum about 2 weeks ago now and was amazing taking even out of the box even. So futuristic and cool not having to worry about a cord any more that my wife has to wrap up or worry about tripping over. Awesome vacuum BUT.....its a little odd but when the vacuum turns up the power you hear a click in the head like it sucked something up that keeps making it click. I have looked at it, taken it apart to make sure I didn't forget something but its annoying when you are using it and you hear it ticking in the head of the vacuum and you think its something stuck in the roller. Maybe its just me being picky but when you spend that kind of money on a vacuum you don't think it would make ticking sounds. Other than that, very cool vacuum, cleans well and the light show it does for when its dirty and clean, it actually works. The stuff it picks up is amazing. We still love it but the ticking will be something you have to get used to I guess is all.

For the price of the vacuum, I’d expect it to work on shag area rugs and it sadly does not. It’s just okay on any other surface. I am not impressed and will most likely be returning. I have a 8 yr old Navigator Lift Away that works amazing but it’s clunky and I have to keep plugging it in each room and deal with the cord which is why I bought this but I’d still need my old vacuum with this one. Not worth it.

I have been using my cordless vacuum for 4 months. I purchased this vacuum to supplement my normal vacuum with day to day to quick vacuums. The first month I was really happy with it, out of the box worked great. My only gripe was the dust bin on the vacuum itself is difficult to open. This is annoying when every so often you have to open the bin because it gets stuck and will not auto empty. By month 2 I started having issues. Dirt and hair are getting stuck and not being sucked up into the vacuum. The amount of work I have to do to use the vacuum each time its not worth it. If you are a house without shedding pets and hard floors, you will likely be happy with your purchase. By month 4 I rarely use it now because I am just exhausted from the amount of work to use it.

Why is there no owner’s manual?

The skimpy directions page is not and never will be enough and figuring how to use this vacuum without an owner’s manual is far from intuitive. A manual that Shark should provide with the vacuum, not expect me to search for and read online or print out at my expense. For the lack of a manual I would’ve given it a one star but because the vacuum seems to work well, once I finallyfound the information I needed, I’ll give it a 3 stars. And what’s the stupidity of sending the vacuum empty bin in the quiet mode? Who vacuums and then needs the bin not to empty for fear of waking someone up? That kept me from vacuuming for a couple of days when the vacuum filled up and I couldn’t get it to automatically empty or find a way to empty the actual vacuum container. And I have better things to do than constantly search YouTube and the internet.

I received my ninja on October 5th and used if for the first time today and was amazed as the vacuum did everything as advertised. I have a small dog that sheds 365 and she is black with light colored tile floors. I was concerned at first that the dust collector seemed very full after doing 3 rooms as I. Had not vacuumed for 5 or 6 days and was concerned there would be a drop in the suction which did not happen. My house is around 1800 SF took about 30 min to complete had at least half of the battery life left and continued to pick up everything in its path. I love the size of the vacuum, the flexibility of movement and ear of use. My son was telling me he had purchase one 2 weeks ago and when we talked he had not yet used it but has since and loves it too, he told me how great everything was that he had read and researched about this model. Great purchase.

I have had my original Shark vacuum for 6+ years and love it; bought this for the auto-empty feature but this model is flawed. The vacuum does not push well on carpet it doesn’t “detect” that it’s carpet and the vacuum just jams when you try to push it because of the fins underneath snagging on carpet. Twice after emptying the dustbin it didn’t close correctly and the debris went everywhere the next time I used the vacuum. Sad to have to return it.

Bought this Shark vacuum expecting years of cordless convenience. Performance was solid early on (strong suction, easy to maneuver), but the battery failed after 8 months. I contacted Shark support and was told I could get a new battery if I covered shipping costs. For a premium-priced product, I shouldn’t be paying extra to fix what seems like a premature battery failure. If you’re considering this model, be aware of the short battery life and that warranty “help” may still cost you shipping. I regret the purchase.

This vacuum is a life changer. It sucks up pet hair and dirt alike, is easy to maneuver around the house, does a great job on carpet and hardwood floors alike, and auto-empties! I use it daily and absolutely love it.

I like the weight and size of it, but I am disappointed that the dog hair get caught up in the rollers. It had mentioned that it wouldn't do that, but unfortunately it does. Not knowing it was doing it the machine started running hot and then shut itself off, which is a good thing I guess. All in all it works good.
