[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I did not like this base gel lol I don’t know what it is but my hair will be super soft and detangled and once I add this it would feel dry and matted. And I never know what I’m doing wrong. I follow the instructions, I’ve tried it on damp hair, soaking wet hair, never dry hair because that would be a nightmare. I tried putting another base gel underneath (which was better actually). I would even put mousse def first (which would define my curls) and then adding this and that was also a nightmare. I love the scent, though it is a bit strong. But this product just wasn’t for me. Oh and it flaked with just the 808 and mousse def 🫩

I’ve tried so many hair gels over the years, and this one tops them all! It’s the most hydrating gel I’ve used—my curls drink it up without feeling heavy or sticky. I live on the Gulf Coast where the humidity is no joke, and I’m honestly amazed at the frizz control this provides. My curls stay defined and soft all day long, with zero crunch or cast. If you’re looking for a gel that holds up in heat and humidity while keeping your curls touchably soft, this is it! Total holy grail status. (I have a mixture of 2c & 3c)

I have short 4C hair that breaks easily so I picked up the 808 base gel and I’ve been using it to do comb coils. I love that. It’s just enough slick to get through my hair easily and detangles it while doing the comb coils. The coils last, they have shine And instead of frizzing on the ends it curls right up.

The 808 Base Gel is absolutely EVERYTHING for my hair type! It give me the most definition and shine/sheen to my hair. I pair it with Mousse Def and the combination is top shelf. My curls have never looked so beautiful and I implore your company to NEVER stop making these products or change the formula!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The DOUX 808 base gel is a styler for a multitude of styles such as Wash n Gos, braid outs, twist outs, and loose hair styles like TWAs. I appreciate its plentiful amount of product because hair gels have only gotten more smaller per package. I’ve used the DOUX mousse original, but not the gel. I used the gel and mousse for a twist out. The honey, slippery elm, and marshmallow root promise a secure but hydrated hold and I can agree with that. It detangled smoothly and its viscous texture wasn’t too dense. I followed what was advised by Doux, apply on wet hair, no oils first. So my LCO was gel, mousse, and pumpkin oil. I have low porosity high density coily+kinky hair and am prone to buildup. This gel was great for a light hold and it didn’t crunch up my hair even after colder weather fronts and lasted till the end of the week. Which is when I personally like to wear my twist out - out. I will say I did get dryness on my hair, I’m going to attribute that more to the mousse because when I used another product I didn’t get that dehydration so soon.

The Doux Base Gel Is a game-changer! My hair feels incredibly hydrated and soft, with beautifully defined curls.

I love this product! The smell, texture, everything about it! The Roux will always get my money. Lol. The dry time is not long at all. My curls always look moisturized.

Tried this after my friend recommended - replaced Uncle Funkys with this and I was very impressed! The gel isn’t too sticky but still creates a great hold and works well with my other products (Mousse Def, Innersense I Create Hold, and Biosilk Serum). My only mild complaint is the smell. It’s a strong watermelon scent but overall blends well after drying.

Best base gel !!! I love this stuff… Trust me you need this in your life.

I tried using this as an edge control but unfortunately that was a fail. I like the lightweight nature but sadly I just don’t think this product is for me

The way this defined my coils is CRAZZYYY!! It leaves me hair so soft, shiny, and defined! I've gotten compliments everyday on my hair since using it!

I don’t even know what this witchcraft is or what exactly it does but my curls are perfect when I use it. It smells heavenly and slips right over every strand. I add a few pumps of Mousse Def and my hair is fresh and bouncy and moisturized for days with zero frizz but zero flaking, buildup, or heaviness. I have worked my way through every curly product in the world but this magic duo is flawless. Never stop making this please!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] the gel is very slipper and great for a wash and go! i would, however, not recommend it for stretched styles (braid outs, twist outs) esp if it very humid outside. i got a solid 3-4 days out of my wash and go and i'm sure it would've lasted longer if it were not so humid as this gel is full of humectants and felt really sticky with too much moisture in the air. and because it is so slippery, with a gel like this less is more. i'll probably use it again when the air is more dry and moderate.

My hair and my daughter’s hair did not like this. My hair was left feeling very dry. The smell was not my favorite either. The mousse and curl refreshing leave-in are a keep. You get a lot of gel for the price and it has great slip. After air drying my hair, I was afraid it would cause breakage.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A nice fragrance with the moisture to boot makes a good starter for forming voluptuous curls. The gel is a bit gooey, but otherwise a starter piece for any hair routine.
