Many guests appreciate its fragrance-free formula, making it suitable for those with allergies. However, the shampoo's lack of lather and potential for causing dryness have raised concerns. The most important ingredient really is trust
I trust Vanicream to provide all of my personal care products. They are the only company I have found that actually formulates products for allergic/reactive/sensitive skin types like mine and my daughters. We've tried "toxin free"/ "natural, organic" brands only to be left with raw, bumpy, itchy, inflamed skin and scalps. The Vanicream shampoo and conditioner clean our scalps and provides softness and shine all without the fragrance, itch, flakes and back acne. The gel gives my waves definition and keeps the frizz at bay. The face wash and body wash clean without leaving us dry or red. Also, there is no residue or smell, not even a lingering chemical one. We just smell like nothing which is what clean should smell like. Only recently did we switch from a popular brand of moisturizer with ceramides to Vanicream moisturizing lotion. Turns out the popular brand was giving us zits and blackheads and somehow also making us feel dry? Not vanicreams lotion. Our skin feels hydrated and more importantly we don't notice our skin which says it all. I also don't feel like I need "anti-aging" products anymore. I did try the vanicream face moisturizer but something in it broke me out (glyceryl stearate maybe?) but the moisturizing lotion makes my face skin look amazing so I'm cool with that. We hope to try the deodorant next too! Thank you Vanicream for caring about the health of your customers. If you keep the formulas the same we will keep buying. You really have made our lives a little easier.

Great shampoo, but use with conditioner
Pros: This is completely fragrance free. It works very well in hard water, which not all shampoos do. It gets my hair very clean, including removing any buildup from styling products or pool chemicals. That's important to me, since I swim frequently. It's also relatively inexpensive compared to many other over-priced fragrance-free products. Cons: This shampoo has an extremely thin, almost watery texture that I don't like. It does lather well once it's on my hair, but it's easy to accidentally use far more than I need at one time. I wish this bottle had a pump top like the conditioner. Finally, while this is great at getting my hair clean, sometimes it's a little *too* squeaky clean, on the verge of my hair feeling stripped. Using the conditioner is an absolute must after I rinse this out, because if I didn't, my hair would be a clean but tangled mess. So I wouldn't use this shampoo by itself. Even with those cons, I still highly recommend this if you're looking for a good fragrance-free shampoo.

Ezcema sufferers, beware to be gaslit by your dermatologist
My dermatologist recommended this while I waited to get patch tests from a recent eczema flare. Almost immediately afterwards I started to get new spots, rashes all over my hair and hairline. I have long hair and the rash also covered both shoulders & arms. Dermatologist claimed it was still my eczema. 8 months later I was so miserable, I decided to change my hair routine and immediately found relief. Must have been allergic to something here!!

For dry and sensitive skin
Start with the Vanicream family of products if you have sensitive or dry skin. This shampoo won't leave your hands or your head dried out. It's not cheap but worth every penny if you have those issues.

Extreme itching!
It causes extreme itching. I'm not sure what is in it that causes the reaction. I'm not allergic to anything much that I know of.

Pump dispenser
I have been using Vanicream shampoo and conditioner for many years and have had a problem with dispensing the shampoo. I decided to switch the pump from the conditioner and the shampoo worked great. It would be nice to have a pump for both.

Very Disappointing
I wanted to love it, but it's pretty awful. I've been dealing with an itchy scalp for awhile, and my dermatologist suggested Vanicream. I can barely get a wide tooth comb through my chin-length hair after washing, and this product leaves it feeling tacky, gummy, unmanageable, and frizzy. I've tried using the shampoo alone, shampoo and conditioner, and shampoo with a different brand of conditioner. It's all bad, although the Vanicream Conditioner was the worst since it added even more to the gummy feeling texture. And it hasn't eliminated the itchy scalp issue. At this point, I'd rather deal with the itchy scalp and have hair that feels and smells clean and manageable.

Drying and hair loss
I have always struggled with hair loss since I was young so it’s easy to miss when a shampoo is causing me to lose hair. I’ve been using this shampoo for months and every time I’ve used it, it was hard to lather. Making my roots get knotted. When I would go in to condition my hair clumps of hair would come out. My hair would continue to shed way too much throughout the day and left it dry, brittle, and fragile. I decided to buy another shampoo for sensitive skin and there was. HUGE difference the first time I used it. Never ever using vanicream again. It’s gonna take a long time to get my hair back to normal

Very Damaging!!!
One star is too generous for the damage this caused to my daughters hair. Her hair has been falling out so badly. She had such healthy, full, shiny, bouncy long hair and this destroyed it. It is so bad that clumps fall out every time we brush and the amount that falls out when she washes her hair is just as bad. I saw a minimum of 5 strands fall out as she walked past me yesterday. I was so concerned I took her to the doctor and had a complete blood panel done to rule out any health issues. We started using this because she has sensitive skin and had eczema when she was younger so we wanted something gentle and fragrance free. Never again!! I am so angry at myself for not realizing it was the shampoo sooner! She has been using this since Nov 25 and I have no idea how long it will take for her hair to recover for this damage. I just pray that it does recover:(
