Q: can the 1/2 cup of oil be replaced with applesauce?

A: We do not recommend replacing the oil with applesauce in our Brownie Mix. Applesauce would likely result in the batter being too wet and would prevent the brownie from setting up well during baking. That said, you can use any oil of your choice, you'll just want to keep flavor in mind. Our team tends to favor coconut oil or grapeseed oil (for a more neutral flavor).

SO yummy.
The package calls for oil or butter. If you are able to, make it with butter. I’ve made it both ways and by far the butter makes it taste amazing. Also, sprinkle some gluten free dark chocolate mini chocolate chips all over the top - my family of 4 (with two kids under 10!) inhales this entire thing in 24-48 hours. I also LOVE that there are no preservatives so you store in the fridge versus just sitting on the counter like the unhealthier boxed brownies.

Not good
This was the worst gluten free brownie ever and I’m so annoyed I spent $8 on them. The live g free at aldis brand is so much better tasting.

DISGUSTING
These are disgusting. Like other reviewers have mentioned, they taste salty and not at all like brownies. The texture is off and the taste is gross. We usually love simple mills products but these are absolutely horrible. DO NOT BUY.

Appreciate the Ingredients
I am gluten free, dairy free, and try not to eat refined sugar much. I so appreciate the ingredients in Simple Mills products. I love these brownies! I have always either reduced the oil to 1/3 cup or I have even replaced the oil with apple sauce and cut the water by 50%.

They are on the pricey end but if you like dark chocolate, you'll love these!! I love that they're not overwhelmingly sweet so you can actually taste the strong yumminess of cacao. They're delicious with the perfect sweet balance!! If you want sugar instead of chocolate, these may not be for you. I'm sure you can find something cheaper out there that meets your desires.

Best brownie mix!
I’m normally not a brownie fan as some are just too cake-like and most are too sweet. When I read negative reviews stating not sweet I had to try it. I find them plenty sweet and if I had my way would be even less sweet. For a mix this is by far the best. Texture is amazing especially for gluten free. I made mine with avocado oil and coffee instead of water. Next time I may use olive oil for a spin.

Whenever I make something simple mills it is not very good.. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I 100% think there are much better gluten free alternatives that you can’t even tell are gluten free. Maybe if you are looking more for an all around “healthier” version this would be good for you. They are not sweet at all and have a gritty texture.

Don't do it
I thought my tastebuds were off because there’s no way you can mess up brownies. Well, my tastebuds work and this mix sucks. It’s oddly salty and not sweet. Just because I can’t eat gluten doesn’t mean I like to eat garbage. I wasted eggs making this when I could’ve had a better tasting omelette with them. I strongly advise you to avoid this product.

the best brownie mix imo
i'm not even gluten-free. i just like almond flour desserts because the flavor and texture. got this and i am obsessed. it's not too sweet, but very rich. the texture is amazing if you like fudgey and crispy brownies. this will be my staple now. i've made it for friends and they love it, too. throw some vanilla ice cream on top and you're in heaven.
