Description
This hedgehog lost his quills and only your little ones can help him get them back! Spike is a fine motor skills toy that helps kids build hand muscles and fine motor skills development as they replace the chunky, peg-shaped “quills” within the holes that dot the smiling hedgehog’s back. The learning doesn't end there—Spike's colorful quills also lend themselves well to lessons in counting, sorting, and color identification skills. Kids can arrange quills by warm or cool colors, work on sequences and patterns by alternating colors, or count the quills with numbers printed on this fine motor toy for toddlers. Once playtime is over, the hedgehog is a snap to clean up—each piece is made of plastic that can be easily wiped clean, and the quills stow snugly inside the hedgehog body.

No replacement spikes = big problem
I bought this for my baby and she likes it okay. She mostly wants to chew on the spikes. So do our dogs. We lost 3 spikes to the dogs and I went on to see if replacement spikes are available. Lo and behold a bunch of reviews talking about how this has been a problem for years and Learning Resources has yet to do anything about it! Way to take a plastic toy that is already disposable and make it impossible to pass on to someone else to enjoy! Very disappointed in the stance Learning Resources takes on contributing to plastic trash. If they were smart, they would sell replacement packs to make it so that babies can continue to enjoy this toy. Instead, they are asking consumers to replace the entire toy and line their pockets! I won't support a company with this disposable mindset.

Easy for 18 months
I bought it for my 18 month old because of its good reviews. It was too easy for him, so he got bored easily. At first he had a hard time putting the spikes all the way down and pulling them as it needs a little strength. Now I try to teach him patterns and the colors as we play.

Not Safe. Please do not buy.
I reached out to the company and asked them to recall this product. The quills split into two pieces. The bottom half of the quill separates from the top half creating a very real choking hazard.

I bought this for children ages 18mo-4 years. Great concept. I give four starts because the spines are made of flimsy plastic that are easy to bend. In addition, the hedge hog does not stay together well when the pegs are being removed by a child.

Not Worth It
This lil guy has some potential but my toddler got bored within 3 minutes of using. As a professional educator, this would be great to fine-tune fine motor skills but there are some serious limitations. With only 12 spikes, it's like, "NEXT!" Even patterns and counting...I wouldn't waste my money on this one. Mine is sitting at the bottom of our toy bin before I resurrected it for some glamour shots. Maybe we could do a version of the Chia pet 🤔

14 month old LOVES this toy
My 14 month old picked up the skill of pulling out the spikes and putting them back in very quickly, he loves this toy. One complaint is that he also uses the spikes for teething and he has ruined every spike by chewing on them. I wish they were made of a sturdier material or that replacement spikes were available.

Missing spikes.
I purchased Spike at a yard sale and was disappointed to discover it only had 9 spikes. I really wish you sold extra spikes. I think a few might be lost after a while. I would love to be able to buy extras.
