Zatarain's Red Beans & Rice Dinner Mix - 8oz

I cook the red beans and rice according to directions and the beans are not soft at all....... They are still very hard..... I won't buy it again!!!!!!

I grew up around dirty rice and this one has an excellent flavor. It is quite salty as others have mentioned, so adding in some no-salt veggies - celery, peppers, onions, maybe tomatoes - helps quite a bit. It's good with cooked breakfast sausage as the meat. If you live in the Carolinas or Virginia, using Neese's sausage gives you a near-copy-cat recipe for Bojangle's dirty rice at a quarter of the cost. That plus a half pound of ground turkey or chicken helps balance the fat and sodium comment. It's quite excellent; my wife and I were able to get two generous meals out of it.

I have made the last box of zatarians I will buy. Once again I made exactly as directed on the box and the beans are not done. Every time I make it I have to add stock to it so that it doesn't get watered down tasting and to allow the beans long enough to cook. It ends up taking twice as long as it's supposed to to get the beans almost all the way done. I used to buy Vigo brand but the grocery stores locally stopped carrying it and now I can't get them. I never had this problem with Vigo. Over the past few years I've only been able to get zatarans and I have this issue every time I make it. I am not ever going to buy another box. I will now order Vigo online and have it delivered to my house because this is ridiculous to continue to spend money on an overly salty product where the beans do not cook completely.

Love this but, the beans never soften so sift them out and use canned. Also use the best sausage you can find, think meat market not grocery store. And brown it, don't just chop and throw in.

I have celiac and my food map is small. Zatarain gives me some choices and wonderful flavors. My family loves the Jambalaya and Dirty Rice it's one of our staples. We've been using them for years with no disappointment ever.

I eat alot of dirty rice. I make up 4 boxes at a time and freeze portions. Besides adding the hamburger, I dress it up with green olives and polish sausage slices. Sometimes bologna, polish sausages are expensive 😆. This freezes so great. Its nice having a freezer full. Just have to heat in the microwave it heats quickly. I have been sprinkling verde sauce on top. So good and so convenient. Tell people about the freezing for increased sales. Thanks for a great product.

I was hesitant because I had tried a boxed rice mix before and it was way too salty. So much so it had to be thrown out. This dirty rice mixture wasn't too salty, and was still extremely flavorful. Everyone enjoyed it and requested I make it again in the future. It was easy and quick to prepare even with the added sausage so I definitely will make it again..

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm from Louisiana so I usually make these dishes from scratch, but I make something called filthy rice and this is a great base for it. It's basically just adding extra ingredients. I like it chunky. I start with the "Holy Trinity"(onion, bell pepper, celery) add garlic, and mushrooms, basically anything your tummy desires. So delicious!

It something we generally eat in my family, however we tried this dinner mix with ground beef and it was a hit. It was flavorful and filling. It's defiantly something we will be adding to the dinner rotation at our house.

Zatarain's Dirty Rice was super easy to make and is perfect for quick weeknight meal when you don't have a lot of time to cook. I made it with ground turkey for my family of 4. It contains a little bit of corn and peppers and just the right amount of spice. I've used Zatarain's rice products before as well as Rice-a-Roni and this was really tasty and the family loved it!

The flavor was delicious, & all I had to add was meat & water. Everyone in my family enjoyed it, I would definitely recommend. I will say, if you're serving this as the main course, the 4.5 servings listed on the box is not enough to feed a family of 4 or 5. I would recommend 2-3 boxes for it to make an entree for a family.
