Pearled Barley from Good & Gather™ has a mild flavor and hearty texture that makes it a great addition to a wide variety of recipes, and it's easy to cook and keep on hand for use whenever you need it. Pair it with beef, diced veggies, potatoes, broth and seasoning for an easy beef and barley soup, or mix with chopped asparagus, grape tomatoes and feta cheese and dress with olive oil for an easy summer salad that's sure to please.
Directions
Rinse and remove any foreign material from barley.
Stovetop – to prepare 1/2 lb. dry barley (1 heaping cup dry = about 4 cups cooked)
1. Bring 2 1/2 cups water, 1 cup barley and 1/8 tsp. salt just to a boil; reduce heat and cover.
2. Simmer gently over LOW heat 45 minutes or until barley is tender but still chewy.
Electric Pressure Cooker
1. Combine 1 cup barley, 2 cups water and dash salt (optional) in 6-qt. electric pressure cooker. Cover and lock lid closed, making sure steam valve is in seal position.
2. Set to pressure cook on HIGH for 20 minutes.
3. Allow pressure to release naturally for 20 minutes, then carefully turn steam valve to vent position to release remaining pressure. Remove lid and drain.

There seems to be some sort of bug problem with grains sold at Target. This is like the third or fourth time I've found black bugs in a type of grain. It's disgusting.

Small chewy grains- disappointing,
Haven’t ever written a review on a grocery item before, but I was really disappointed in this barley. I’ve been used to using Quaker in soups and stews, but they didn’t have it so I bought this one thinking there would be no difference. I was wrong first of all the barley doesn’t cook up as big. It takes longer to cook and it’s still small and chewy after cooking. I guess even simple grains are not all equal I would not recommend this product

Live bugs included
I love barley, and I was excited that Target offers this barley at a good price and from a brand I trust. However, when I opened the bag and got ready to rinse and prepare the barley, there were live bugs in it. I checked the sell by date and it was more than one month past. This discovery has me now questioning whether I will ever purchase grocery products from my Super Target or from Good and Gather ever again. There’s no excuse for selling out of date, insect-ridden food.

Lets gather the goods
Could go on and on with each of the Good and Gather lineup of beans, legumes, grains etc., but I’m not. Suffice to say they are easy to like and glad they are being offered. 4.1 Stars.

Fraction of the fiber
A quarter cup (uncooked) of this pearled barley has 2 grams of fiber while another brand I have in my cupboard has 7 grams per quarter cup. G&G is lighter in color and cooks much faster. I cooked it less than the recommended time and poured off the extra water and then it does have a chewy texture but I would never buy this again.

Not the same quality!
Price keeps going up and quality going down. Would get this all the time and have been very pleased with the quality and price until recently. Price went up 60% for a little bag and quality of the barley is not the same. Previously received nice size hearty looking grain and past two shipments have been small size white barley that looks the size of rice. Looks completely different then pictured. Very disappointed.
