Recently my AirPods (2nd gen) died. Devastated, I hopped on Target.com and read the reviews for the newest AirPods. I went with the better reviewed AirPod Pro. I wore them for 1 day and my ears hurt so bad. Even with the “XS” rubber tips. They were so big for my ears. I went in and exchanged them for the AirPods 4. They fit way better.

So disappointed in these. For reference I had the airpod 2nd gen and I got them in 2019. I have worn them EVERY SINGLE DAY more often than not on full volume for almost 6 years now. Finally, the battery life has died and the right main speaker fades in and out so I decided to finally treat myself to some new ones. These are not at all the same quality. First of all - the shape. These are not the same shape as the original AirPods. The originals were smaller and sat further into your ear comfortably, allowing less noise to seep through. These ones are bigger (despite the many reviews saying otherwise - I have attached an image so you can see) and actually sit further out in the main portion of your ear meaning that more noise can make it through because they are not deep seated. This goes to show you why they have a $50 upsell for noise cancellation. To fix a problem they created by changing shapes. Also on comfortability, the speaker divot on the top is actually painful to have in your ear because it’s a sharp plastic edge so having them in longer than a few minutes hurts. These ARE NOT small-ear friendly, coming from someone who does not have small ears. These do not fit. Second of all - sound The sound on these is SIGNIFICANTLY worse than older AirPods. I had both of my parents test out one of each AirPod and listed to the same so my and they both agreed the older was better. I saw one other review refer to the sound as “tin-y” and I agree with that. It sounds like every artist is singing with a lisp, symbols (or similar sounding instruments) also sound raspy, and overall everything has this static-like undertone going on. If I hadn’t had the better ones for so long and become used to them I probably wouldn’t have had an issues with these but now I cannot use them because I can hear how wrong all of my favorite songs sound. Not as important but still, these can only be worn in the designated ear in one single position. The older AirPods could be worn in just about any position and even upside down in the opposite ears. I would like to offer some food for thought - Apple got rid of the old design, changed to the new shape that didn’t work well, is selling an upsell to fix the problem they made, and then when you finally get tired of that you they hope you will just splurge and buy the AirPod pros which are nearly double the price even on sale.

Do not buy the Airpod 4's. They are a downgrade in quality and in ergonomics/functionality. I've owned several pairs of airpods over the years... they've all seemeed to hold up pretty well to exercise and office use. They lasted 4 weeks before failing - likely due to "sweat" from workouts. That was the only time they would have been exposed to any amount of water in the short time I owned them. I sent them to Apple for a warranty repair/claim and they wont honor them even though they have an IP54 sweat resistance rating. Their site specifically says that they can handle intense exercise and sweat. Well - doesn't seem like it and they aren't holding up to their warranty standards either. I'll be moving to another brand - which is a shame - because I was fine with the older versions of AirPods. They wrecked a good thing, made it worse, didn't honor a warranty or loyal customer, and now lost one.

I bought this through a drive-up order. The box was damaged/already had the safety seal broken. Why am I paying so much money for a used or refurbished product? Aside from that, it has a poor fit in the ears. The noise canceling is mediocre.

I miss my old Apple AirPods but these are terrible when talking on the phone or listening to other people. The noise cancellation works but it sounds like I’m under water. I get told all the time i sound either so far away or I can’t be heard at all over the phone. I regret purchasing them.
