Q: Can I use a mix of vinegar and water for this? Or thieves cleaner and water?

submitted by Mkszczech - 2 years ago
  • A: Vinegar and water will eat away the internal tubing - it did mine.

Q: What cleaning formula or solution should I add for the steamer?

submitted by MM - 2 months ago
  • A: For the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Plus, add warm tap water to the WATER fill line, then add a genuine BISSELL Multi‑Surface cleaning formula to the FORMULA fill line on the clean tank. This machine is designed to use BISSELL formulas (such as Multi‑Surface, Pet Multi‑Surface, or Hard Floor Sanitize) even when using the steam feature—not water only. We don’t recommend using other brands or homemade solutions.

Q: Can you vacuum without steam?

submitted by TL - 4 months ago
  • A: The CrossWave HydroSteam Plus lets you choose your cleaning mode, so you can run it as a regular wet/dry cleaner without activating steam. Just select the non‑steam setting on the handle when you clean. It's not meant to be a dry vacuum. If you need help finding the right mode, we’re here to help.

    Not worth the price

No where near worth the price. The vacuum portion does not have a strong suction at all, if there is much more than dog hair on the floor I have to pre vaccum. The mop… works?? I suppose.. but not $300 works. It takes MULTIPLE passes to even clean up the smallest of messes. The solutions they claim are the ONLY thing to be used in it and they have essentially no smell.. so my house never smells cleans afterwards, the opposite actually. The roller brush continually smells like mildew no matter how much I clean it and let it dry afterwards. If you don’t hand wash it before you mop, your floors will smell like mildew. I wish I saved $300 and just continued to use my regular mop.

Andrea, we’re sorry to hear this was your experience—that’s certainly not what we expect from this machine. For best results, make sure the tanks are properly seated, the filter is clean, and you’re using BISSELL formula, as buildup or setup issues can impact performance on multiple surfaces. Please reach out to BISSELL support at support.bissell.com or 1‑800‑237‑7691 so we can help troubleshoot or review warranty options.

    Very Weak Steam Cleaner

I purchased this steam vacuum because I have an 8 month old who has began eating solids and is making a huge mess of my floors several times a day. I chose this one because it claims to be able to pick up liquids, solids and mashed up foods. As you can see it isn’t a cheap purchase. I am really disappointed in this vaccuum. It could not remove dried sweet potato, raspberries or banana. There is an option to clean small areas of large areas. I originally did small to try it out. It used up the product in probably 5 minutes. It felt very brief. Once the product is used up the machine basically starts leaving puddles of water and dirty soap around. So then I stopped and refilled it to a large area. When the product was used maybe half way it began leaving large puddles again. It cannot clean up dried children’s paint. It cleans up some minor messes but I would not rate this as cleaning up any better than a wet paper towel. You also have to hold the trigger the entire time when in steam mode. After 10 minutes my hand is sore. I’m returning and real bummed about it!

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating tough, dried messes can be—especially with little ones at home. For best results on dried food or paint, we recommend pre‑treating or letting the steam sit briefly before passing over it, and ensuring the clean tank has enough formula as low formula can cause excess puddling. If you’d like help getting the best performance from your machine, please reach out to us at support.bissell.com or 1-800-237-7691—we’re here to help.

    CrossWave® HydroSteam® Plus Multi-Surface W/D Vac

We recently installed new tile in our bathroom that has a finely textured surface that's impossible to push or pull a mop over--it was like trying to mop velcro. I purchased this machine in hopes that it would work when nothing else would. I'm happy to report that it works like a dream, glides effortlessly across this tile and doesn't leave it overly wet. I used it on the steam setting with the Bissell Febreze Original Gain formula, and the tile is now clean and the bathroom smells fresh but not perfume-y. Be prepared--using this thing is addictive. I have also used it on my wood floors to remove a years-old coffee stain. Highly recommend!

Hi Chris — we’re sorry to hear about your experience with your floors. This machine is designed for use on sealed hard floors, and we understand how frustrating this situation must be if the flooring was damaged. Not all hard wood floors are sealed and safe for wet cleaning. We’d like to look into this further and help however we can, so please contact us at support.bissell.com for assistance.

    Maybe if it worked.

Terrible terrible design. This was bought in December and it’s already giving problems. The machine will not let out liquid and it’s not like it’s a simple design to flush out the pump if there is a problem as to why it’s not pumping out liquid. The steam isn’t working and the thing doesn’t seem to be easy to find what can be the possible issue. It’s been less than 6 months and it’s already not working.

This is my 5th time I am trying to rewrite this review for you good people. Only cause I’m trying to keep it short and have you read it. So here it goes. I checked on diff brands for a week. I found out that cordless are nice but you have to wait 5hrs or 3hrs before charge. And then you only have 25mins to clean or maybe 40 depends on brands. Dyson I’m aware is the best. At least for vacuum Idk about the G1. I couldn’t afford it. I tried the shark steam pick up. That was bad. And then I got the Bissell. I’m very happy. It clean well. It smells good. It dryes well. And I don’t have to wait 5 hours to charge. By the way I have 1064 square feet living area. The only downside of Bissell is that I wish the water and detergent tank was bigger. That way I don’t have to refill. But then again my space is large. Believe me you won’t be disappointed. And yes please clean it after you finish your floors. It’s very easy. All you do is run it thru water. And give it a wipe. Thank you for reading and I hope you get the one you think is best for you. Everyone deserves to be happy with their merchandise. I know I am.

    Worth the money

Just received my crosswave hydrosteam machine last week. I tried the steam feature on my ceramic floors and was impressed with the cleaning it did. I also tried it on one of my hardwood floors as I was a bit skeptical of how the steam clean would actually clean the hardwood. Wow I didn’t realize how dull my floors have been, as they always had a shine before. The suction was great as it didn’t leave the floor wet.

I would never buy this again

AWFUL. The experience I have had with this CrossWave is upsetting. Bissel replaced it when I told them it leans over and doesn't clean well. They sent me a replacement and it has the same problem. WASTE of my time and money. Sure, it sort of cleans. But it leans over when stored and tips over easily. Additionally, it does not steam clean near walls or cabinets along the edges. UGH. They really should replace this with the newer model.

I loved this thing when I first got it, it made mopping so much easier. I’ve had it for a year now and have had to send it off to bisel to be repaired twice. Once for the brush not rolling and once for no suction. I’m looking into another vacuum.

Very impressed after 1 month in!

I have 3 large white fluffy dogs and 2 messy toddler boys. Our home is all hardwood and some tile, over 2000 sq ft. I have struggled for years to keep my floors clean and often tell my kids to get up off the floor when playing due to this struggle. My floors have never been cleaner since getting this tool. I was amazed by all the grime it pulled up from the floors in the first use. Maintaining clean floors has been a breeze. I have grabbed the machine out for quick spills or muddy days with the dogs and done weekly deep cleans throughout the home. The light is a great feature. The vacuum is very powerful, it will pull a hair ball out from under a table I didn't even realize is there. The steam never makes the floors warm so I am not too concerned about damaging the hardwood. The self cleaning tool is neat as well! The only con for me is the tank size being a bit small. I would probably have to empty/refill 4x+ to do my whole home in one go. Also I wish the cord was a bit longer and maybe retractable. Overall 5 stars for now after 1 month!

    I’m the Problem

My fiancé has been talking about the CrossWave for years. I mostly ignored him, because obviously I know everything. But after too many days with five dogs, a 7-year-old, and a yard that apparently produces unlimited dirt, I finally broke down and ordered one. The box arrived and I opened it immediately, set everything up, filled the tank, and started cleaning. Within seconds I had brown water pooling everywhere. The machine looked like it was just spreading muddy swamp water across my floor. Instead of using my brain to troubleshoot like a rational adult, I spent half the tank of water mentally drafting the most brutal review ever written. I was furious that I had just spent this much money on a machine that seemed designed to spread dirt around as efficiently as possible. Finally, I went back to the instructions. It said the brush might be too wet or there could be a clog. A clog seemed unlikely considering I had owned the machine for about seven minutes, but I pulled the roller out anyway. And there it was — a soaking wet piece of cardboard from the packaging jammed in the brush. I removed it, put everything back together, and tried again. And suddenly the thing worked perfectly. The suction was back and stronger than ever. The steam came pouring out. My floors looked amazing — which is impressive considering my five dogs seem personally committed to keeping the floors muddy. So the CrossWave HydroSteam works great st. No streaking, no leftover water, and not a single muddy paw print. My only criticism is the debris separator. I think the design could be improved. There’s nowhere to set the filter/lid while you’re pulling the separator out, dumping debris in the trash, and then running to the toilet to dump the dirty water. It turns into a slightly chaotic balancing act. I strongly recommend removing the packaging from the machine before using it. (Apparently that step is important.) If your house deals with the same level of chaos that mine does — kids, dogs, mud everywhere — this machine is absolutely worth it. And if it seems like it’s spreading brown water everywhere… check the roller first. Trust me. Unfortunately, my fiancé was right. Please don’t tell him I said that.

    Multi-step clean up

Nice product moves smoothly. Steam works well. Vacuum is ok not the best. Returning because the clean up post each use requires more time and effort than I will want to spend with my weekly mopping needs.

I would definitely repurchase and recommend this

I absolutely love this crosswave vacuum cleaner! It’s my second style, and I’m particularly fond of this one. It consistently performs well, and I use it daily for light cleaning and occasionally for more extensive pet messes. While I’d prefer a cordless option (provided it doesn’t have the same issues as my previous cordless crosswave cleaners), a longer cord would also be helpful. I bought this model because of its steam feature, which I find highly effective. With the steam option enabled, I can effortlessly lift objects from any hard surface in two passes about 95% of the time.
