Then, hand-wash the pitcher, lid, and reservoir using a mild detergent, and rinse them thoroughly. A: Hi Marge, great question! If you're using our Standard (white) filter, it’s designed to be replaced approximately every 40 gallons, or 2 months; whichever comes first. If you have the Elite (blue) filter, it lasts longer; up to six months before needing a change. Our Denali Pitcher’s electronic indicator will also help you track the filter life and let you know when it’s time to replace it, so you can use that as a helpful guide too. However, our Elite pour-through, Elite faucet mount and Hub systems are certified to reduce microplastics (defined by NSF/ANSI 401 as particles from 0.5 to 1 micron) as well as PFOA and PFOS. I never write reviews, but I dislike this Brita so much that I felt I had to say something. It must be top-heavy because it’s constantly tipping over, spilling water everywhere. It’s driving me nuts! I do not recommend this particular Brita.

I love how sleek and modern it looks it fits perfectly in my fridge without taking up too much space. The water tastes noticeably cleaner and fresher compared to tap water, and I appreciate that it removes chlorine and other impurities without any weird aftertaste. The pitcher is lightweight and easy to pour, and changing the filter is simple thanks to the indicator that reminds me when it’s time. The only small downside is that the reservoir isn’t huge, so if I’m serving several people at once, I need to refill more often.

We’re sorry to hear about the carbon dust you noticed in your filtered water, and thanks for coming to us with this. The black specks you see are particles of activated carbon and are not harmful. It’s normal for carbon particles to appear in your first fillings, but resoaking the filter completely submerged in a tall glass of cold water for 15 minutes, then holding it for 1-2 minutes under cold running tap water, is often enough to minimize this. The particles also may be minimized by ensuring that water does not run into the reservoir with full force and that the incoming water is generally directed away from the filter.
