72" Carson 5 Shelf Bookcase with Doors - Threshold™

Hardware is not very strong. The door was damaged when it arrived. Priced just higher than it should be.

We love this bookshelf and have gone from 2 to 4 over the years for our reading room. It looks so nice, the height is perfect, and the cabinets are a great touch. However, we purchased the previous ones for about $200 each. The 50% cost increase I noticed today is shocking. Although they are beautiful, I don’t think that we would pay $300 for them, unfortunately.

Came with scratches all over and missing holes for screws. Feels cheaply made and would not recommend.

I bought 3 and all were damaged. I was able to build 1 completely swapping out parts and exchanged 2. 1 of the new ones was heavily damaged as well and I had to replace it. So beware...since this are only shipped is hard to get them undamaged.

This is a nice piece, however we could not put it together, the back of the side pieces did not have the predrilled holes as shown in the instructions and we do not have a drill to make the holes. The item is not stable without the back to hold it together. I am more upset by the fact the Target wanted me to return the product to get a refund. I am not going to disassemble it and carry all the pieces back to Target. If you have a drill and a handy person you can get past the challenge I faced in putting this together. But otherwise skip it. We were unable to attach the trim on the top because we didn't have a drill.

First, I looked for shelves for a while before I settled on these, based on look and durability. Also, I’ve been putting together premade furniture a long time. This series of Carson bookcases are a good look and quality for the price, and fairly easy to put together. I have the 3 shelf, some of the 5 shelves, and the shelf/cabinet combo. I’ve bought them over a period of few years and the quality has been consistent. They have even made it through a couple of moves unscathed. I put together all of these but one shelf. Someone else put one of them together—they did not follow directions, put it together wrong, and did not add the backing. The shelf did not turn out well and is wobbly. So take your time, and follow the clearly marked steps. Also, a drill is the best option, though I did put one together with a screw driver—it just took twice as long. Tips: anytime you buy furniture that is being delivered (especially packaged), do not move it, but first inspect the package and take pictures of any damage to the box exterior. Next, open it and check everything immediately. Again, if anything is damaged or missing, take clear pictures and submit a claim right away. Failure to submit timely claims or first moving and/or assembling the item diminishes your credibility and the likelihood of the best outcome.

Good quality. Was easy to put together. The only downside is 45 little screws that you have to put on the back of the unit to hold back panels. Nails would be better.

The one I was able to assemble was great and works well as part of my entertainment center. The second one I can’t even get the screws into the back and even tired pre drilling holes. That didn’t work either, and my drill bit broke into the back of the bookcase. Impossible and completely frustrating to assemble for use. Also the hinges are bent on the doors and they do not have options to just get new hinges when you call or email support. Determined to get the back on so I can complete my center, but would hesitate purchasing again. Pilot holes in the back would be helpful and alleviate a lot of my frustrations.

I bought 2 for our office. Easy to assemble, took a little over an hour with 2 people. They look so nice.

Very sturdy and useful. Game changer in my kids rooms. I have one in each of their rooms.

Isn't the most sturdy thing in the world but if just holding books and decorative pieces works great. Has a pretty modern look so fits well with most things. Little difficult to assemble.

The "laminate" is basically paper and was ripping off within a few months. Don't try to move with this, the hinges will break.

Arrived broken, flimsy, poor quality and poor customer service to make it even more difficult for everyone involved. Broken in 3 places upon arrival.

The design is great, but it's MDF material that's not heavy at all, and I had to drill a hole because there was no hole at all when I put the back panel in. The hinges were already attached to the door, but when I put them together the door height was off. I bought two and I think I'll have to return one.

I have ordered a few of these. Not the best quality but they get the job done. I received one that arrived damaged and had to lug back to the store. The design is beautiful. Simple and elegant. They are prone to knicks and scuffs but nothing a little touch-up paint won't cover. Overall not bad.

Very attractive bookcase. Like the detailing. Gave 4 stars because of the three I ordered, one had some split pieces and I feel they’re a tad overpriced for what they are. They aren’t the sturdiest, we reinforced ours to the wall, Bought three and have them together as faux built-ins in our home office.

Nice bookshelves overall, a few pieces weren’t perfect, though.

I was hopeful the quality of these bookcases would be high given they are Threshold. I ordered two for our office. It was so disappointing when I opened the first one and the quality and craftsmanship was so poor. The side inserts are paper thin and not glued in, allowing them to pop out. The backing is thin as well. Lastly, after unpacking the entire bookcase pieces from the box, the last long side piece was destroyed and made the whole bookcase un-usable and had to repacked. I wanted to be able to give thi a 5-star review and recommend to others, but unfortunately, for this item, I am not able to and had to return both from my purchase.

Easy to put together, sturdy with lots of storage. I upgraded a little with different knobs & press & stick wallpaper (also from Target) on the back.
