Q: Is the screen on the Instinct E able to be read easily outside in the sunlight?
submitted by wtp - 28 days ago
A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about Garmin Instinct E Smartwatch.
Yes. The Garmin Instinct E is specifically designed to be easy to read outdoors, including in bright sunlight. It uses a monochrome, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display that Garmin describes as sunlight-readable/sunlight-visible.
In fact, this type of display often becomes more legible in direct sunlight, unlike many AMOLED screens that can struggle with glare. The Instinct E's display is optimized for outdoor activities such as hiking, running, cycling, and navigation.
What to expect
✅ Excellent visibility in full sun.
✅ High-contrast monochrome display.
✅ Designed for outdoor and rugged use.
⚠️ Not as colorful or vibrant as an AMOLED smartwatch display.
If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

I ran 5 miles with the watch today it was connected to my Garmin app and the watch told me my time every mile I ran through my headphones. I really appreciate SHEELS for setting the watch and connected to my Garmin app. I really enjoy my Garmin instinct watch.

Time face number needs to be more pronounced.
This is my second Garmin. My last one was a solar. It functions the same. If I had a wish it would be to make the time display brighter and darker to see the numbers better.

Good Beginner Health/Activity Smartwatch
Good beginner health/activity smartwatch. It's decently accurate with what it monitors, although the auto-pause features can be finicky when you start moving again or are slowly meandering when the dogs are sniffing around. An annoying aspect is that even though it continuously monitors your temperature, it doesn't support monitoring it during sleep so that value is missing in the sleep report to detect abnormalities. There also isn't a way to do a quick-add for hydration from the watch, so I have to open the app on my phone every time before I forget to keep track, which can be tedious while at work. The battery duration between charges is less than expected from what was advertised, but still superior compared to other common smartwatch brands according to my colleagues.

I love this device
This is my second one. My original Garmin is still in great shape but this has some interface and capability updates that I really thought I would use. The buttons are now more recessed so you don't bump them by accident and there are numerous improvements to the display. I hike, bike and work out frequently even at 70 YO and I can't imagine being without it. I recommend it to anyone who is active.

I have had this watch for a couple of weeks. I bought it to pair with my bike heart rate. I am not a tech savvy person, so I had to work at navigating some of the screens. Now I think I have most of it but still need to learn more. I have tried to broadcast the heart rate to my EDGE 540 bike computer and cannot seem to get it. In retrospect I may have been better off getting the touch screen version. Having to push buttons to find and change screens takes more time and does not seem as easy to navigate. Switching to the stopwatch or timer feels clumsy. It may still be that I need to learn how to set my preferred screens but as of now I am still learning.

Enhanced from older Instinct watches
An enhancement from the last Instinct watch that I owned. I like the automation and classifications for working out. I still in discovery mode regarding adding other work areas, like flying.

Attractive watch with many functions.
I’ve had it for a weeks now. So far it’s been exactly what I was wanting. Battery last a reasonable time unless you turn the GPS on. That really takes it down. I have the e40 which is about a perfect size for my wrist (7”). Any larger wrist than that you will need a longer band. It took me awhile to get it setup and a face that had all the info I wanted at a glance. Overall pretty happy with it.
