Q: I'm reading complaints about rust spots. Is that because there's steel on the inside of the kettle? If it's cosmetic and on the outside, I don't mind, but I don't want to drink rust water.
A: When we're done with ours and we're not going to be using it for the rest of the day, we pour out the excess water and take a paper towel and dry the inside and set it back on the base. I've had mine for over a year and have never had a rust spot.
submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years agoA: I've had mine for over a year and have no rust spots. If I will not be using it for the rest of the day I just pour the water out and dry it with a paper towel and set it back on the base. it's the best product for heating your water to a boiling point under 2 minutes that I have ever used... And we absolutely love ours!
submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years agoA: those are mineral deposits on the metal, not rust. at night pour 1/2 cup of your cheapest white vinegar into the bottom. rinse in the morning and everything will look brand new, guaranteed.
submitted bySheila - 2 years agoA: I rinse out my pot after each use and wash it intermittently and I have no residue. I think people get lazy and leave leftover water in the pot promoting interior and exterior spotting.
submitted byKLA - 7 years agoA: Thank you for your question. The "rust spots" you are seeing are likely mineral deposits leftover from the water. This can be removed by doing a cycle with cream of tartar, as outlined in your use and care guide. Q: How long would you say it takes to boil a cup of water? I'm thinking of buying this for my mother and it would b primarily because of the speed in witch it takes to boil water on a traditional kettle.
A: I ended up giving my kettle to a friend. This boils your water under two minutes...and is way,way faster than the kettle! She will love it!
submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years agoA: Two minutes or less? It’s very fast.
submitted byMatanuskaMolisana - 7 years agoA: Thank you for your question. The boil time will depend on the kettle (size 1L vs. 1.7L and heater rating), starting water temperature, water amount, and altitude.
submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 5 years agoBrand expertA: If you fill the water level to the minimum level- it takes 2 minutes to heat to the appropriate temp.
submitted byLauren - 7 years agoA: At the minimal level it's under 2 minutes and at the maximum level it's exactly 2 minutes. I love mine... I put the water in flip the switch... go grab my purse and car keys... By the time I put on my jacket, get back to the kitchen it's already done I pour, add my tea bag or instant coffee, and walk out the door! Best product ever...I love mine!

Q: Sorry I am probably missing something obvious: Why is there a cord wrap in the base if this is a cordless unit? Do you mean that the cord is retractable? If truly cordless, is it battery operated?
A: The cord goes to the base, which detaches from the kettle.
submitted bySvb207 - 7 years agoA: It has a separate round bottom base that the actual glass kettle sits on that you take it off to pour and then set it back on the base it's very easy to lift off and on...sits securly, put on and lifts off with ease and is very attractive sitting on the counter.
submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years agoA: Thank you for your question. This Hamilton Beach Kettle will feature a cord on the power base. The power base will feature a cord wrap storage.
submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 5 years agoBrand expertA: The kettle is cordless, the base it sits on when heating up has a cord. The are 2 separate pieces.

Q: After use, I would like to leave the kettle lid open, to help it air dry. Does the lid have a hinge, allowing it to stay open?
A: Yes the lid will stay open. After lifting the lid pull it back until the lid clicks into place. It then stays open until closed.
submitted byBF47 - 10 months agoA: Thank you for your question. Yes, this appliance will feature a hinge that allows the lid to remain open.
submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 3 years agoBrand expertA: The "HamiltonBeachTeam" "expert" is incorrect. Yes, there is a hinge to open the lid, however the lid does not remain open, you must hold it open with your other hand or against the faucet to fill the kettle. If you do not click the lid closed, it *will* be open about an inch, however you cannot open it completely because the hinge doesn't allow full opening without breaking the lid hinge. Disappointed in this and am returning my kettle to Target.

Q: How long is the cord on the base?
A: Thank you for your question. The cord should come out and be 2 feet (24 inches) in length.
submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 4 years agoBrand expertA: When completely unwound, the cord is 25 inches from the base to the plug (not including the plug, just the wire part). The cord stores inside the base so you can make it any length you want from 0 inches to 25.

Q: Why is there white residue at the bottom of my kettle and it has a white film floating on top of the water . Please respond. Thank you A
A: That is mineral from the water. Use white vinegar or cream of tartar to clean the minerals out.

Q: Do you know the temperature that the water reaches when it is ready? I've been using it to brew coffee but don't think it gets hot enough.
A: It is boiling hot... To the point when I put it in my 'To Go"coffee MuG... I add my instant coffee powdered creamer and sugar ((just an FYI, after you stir it do not put the spoon into your mouth it will scald your tongue)) I Stir It,twist lid on to my cup,and by the time I get to our church ((15 minutes away)) I still can't drink it because it's too hot! It is the Best! Within 2 minutes, you have boiling hot water! I love mine, we use it everyday!
submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years agoA: Grandall... Within two minutes the water is,''BOILING SCALDING HOT" you should call customer service, it sounds like yours isn't working.
submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago
Q: Does it get very hot to touch?
A: Yes...some areas are hot to the touch...but the handle where you grip to pour has a sturdy nice formed base and does not get hot at all, also the bottom fitting ou the pot is also 'not" hot to the touch... Obviously, the glass portion that contains boiling water is.
submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years agoA: Thank you for your question. Yes, the exterior or the kettle is hot to the touch. There are "HOT SURFACE" signs in the use and care guide and on the kettle itself for this reason.

Q: Can the light be disabled to avoid annoying roommate?
A: Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the light cannot be adjusted or turned off.
submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 7 years agoBrand expertA: The light is only on while it is heating, less than 2 min for a large mug of water. And it is a serene blue, so less likely to wake your roommate than a white light.
