Q: Does this shut off automatically when the collection cup is full or will it overflow and you need to pay attention?

Q: How long does the battery last? And how often is it recommended to replace the cups, 3 months, 6 months, etc?
This breast pump offers a hands-free experience that many guests appreciate, allowing them to multitask while pumping. Its ease of cleaning and compatibility with other Medela products are highlighted as significant advantages. However, several guests have reported issues with suction strength, leaking, and durability, which may affect reliability. Overall, it provides a convenient solution for busy parents, but potential buyers should consider the mixed feedback on performance.

This could be a good pump if it didn’t have battery issues. I’ve had 3 replacements due to battery issues and the most current replacement still has battery issues. I have to keep it plugged in for it to work properly which defeats the purpose of getting a portable pump.

Leaking cups

First off, I never write reviews so hear me out on this one. The only two negatives I have experienced with this pump is the loudness of the pump. I did not realize how loud it was until I began pumping at work when it was very quiet. It did not bother me that much at home and wasn’t loud enough to wake baby. My biggest concern is that milk leaks EVERY time you empty the container. It must not seal correctly as I have seen numerous complaints about this. I have used other Medela pumps in the past without leaking issues. I would suggest another pump and would not buy if I had to do it over again.

Madela makes their products to completely fail on you just after your 1 year warranty is up. PURCHASE right before or after your baby is born. I loved this pump, it’s great on the go as a working mom but 8 months into pumping I experienced battery issues, it freezing or not charging properly. I purchased a few months before baby was born & now 9 months in the pump has completely stopped. It froze while on, stopped pumping all together. Went through troubleshooting & nothing…so sad & ironic how it died right after its year warranty was up. Thank god I have an old plug in pump NOT from this company. I’ll never purchase a pump from them again.

I specifically chose this device so I could walk around hands free and pump on the go without being plugged in. I have not been able to do this the entire year I have had the modela pumps, I constantly have to keep the device plugged in as it won’t hold a charge. This has happened with two devices now and I have maybe used them a total of 30 times, of all these times I was only unplugged maybe 3 or 4 times. I find it frustrating that this has happened twice and it’s not worth me calling support again. The suction was great and the cups were comfortable but the device was useless. I wish I had a better experience.

The first two months it worked perfectly. After that, it Suddenly didn’t work as well. I would get a fraction of the milk. Tried switching parts w/o success. I’m a bit disappointed because I work in a place where hands free pumps are much needed.

Pump gets mold

MP - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
Poorly made, got moldy after couple uses despite proper cleaning and sanitizing per manual instructions. Company refused to refund stating mold wasn't manufacturing problem and claiming I wasn't cleaning it properly. They also stated I was outside of 90 day warranty window despite the fact that I attempted to contact them without any success. I provided proof of dates and time when I was reaching out without being able to connect to anyone. I have since purchased different hands free pump and have had no issues with mold. Don't waste your money here.

Love these pumps, they are quite loud compared to Willow Go and Elvie Stride, honestly sound like the electric spectra I use overnight. As an exclusive pumper I rotate between the Stride and Freestyle during my workday and use Spectra primarily in the mornings and evenings. Besides being loud, the suction works extremely well and I love that there are not a ton of parts to clean. The biggest issue I have have with this pump is that the touchscreen is very easily engaged, if I accidentally bump the controls in my pocket or when wearing lanyard it'll turn off or switch modes.

I bought this 3 months ago and the screen has stopped working multiple times, and now it just won’t turn on at all. The collection cups have stopped sealing and you can hear the air coming through in one of them now. And it sucks because I love the out put from this pump but I just cannot rely on it.

Milk leaks out of the cups! Not the best when you already have a low supply and needing every drop possible. Very disappointing when half of it leaks out. Did this from the first week or two of using it. Don’t recommend for the price paid.

It makes such a huge difference using a hands-free pump! I have been using this pump for the past week and find myself pumping longer because I don't have to sit in one place. I went with the Medela hands free pump after reading reviews online including positive reviews about less pump parts to clean and because I rented a Medela pump from the hospital and have a Medela pump through insurance. I like that some pump parts are compatible with my other Medela pumps and this is by far my favorite. I am 6 weeks postpartum.

Touchscreen issues
2 out of 5 stars
Kriskc - 9 months ago
originally posted on medela.com
Only great feature about this was that its handsfree. It's too bulky on me to comfortably hold my baby if needed, but luckily it can be worn one side at a time. You also can not bend forward while wearing since there are open holes at the top which is a problem when you have to reach down to pick up your baby or are trying to complete household tasks. The biggest issue is that the touchscreen would randomly stop working and sometimes it would change the setting on its own going from a level 2 to and 8 which was not pleasant especially when the screen to turn it down freezes at the same time.

This breast pump is my favorite! I love the hands free discrete cups you can pump anywhere with modesty. I was absolutely devastated when my husband drove off with it on the roof of the car and it went flying off at 50 miles per hour. We pulled over found it and miraculously it still worked! It’s a little scratched up but I still use it almost every day and pump! Thank you for making good quality products for sleep deprived parents!

Very Glitchy & Not Enough Sizes
2 out of 5 stars
HMW8898 - 11 months ago
originally posted on medela.com
I put this breast pump on my registry and received it as a gift, however I so wish I would’ve chosen a different brand. My issues with it begin with the fact that it: 1. Has an open spout at the top so you can’t bend over since it doesn’t close. Also makes for storing milk while pumping on the go more complicated since you can’t just keep it in the pumps themselves. 2. The touch screen is so ridiculously sensitive if it brushes against your leg or hits the counter, it might pause or change settings on you. 3. Wasn’t a fan of the wrist strap motor design…kinda takes away from it being hands-free because it’s swinging everywhere and the tubes aren’t that long so if you set it down you’re on a short leash. 4. There are only breast shield sizes available above 21mm, which is actually pretty large. If you need anything smaller, you have to order some 3rd party inserts which in my experience make the pump less effective. 5. Worst of all, it recently started glitching. I’ve only had it for 2 months and it will suddenly stop out of nowhere with full battery and the buttons will become unresponsive. Right now it has full battery but won’t work unless it’s plugged in - which completely defeats the purpose of it being a hands free pump. I will say, my two positives are that, they are easy to clean because of the small amount of parts and, when it is functioning normally, it DOES get milk out pretty effectively. I’d say equivalent to, if not slightly better than a standard Spectra S2 pump which has a large hospital grade motor. I’m hoping I can get a refund or at least replacement or something since it seems to be dying on me after only 2 months of use.

There is no way to lock the touch buttons. This wouldn't be an issue if the pump wasn't marketed as "hands-free" and wearable. With no lock on the buttons it is hardly wearable - they are way too easy to press with any body part, and even trough clothes. My solution is to use an antistatic bag from an old hard drive, it spoils the looks but prevents accidental touches. Or if you haven't bought it yet, just go for the classic Swing Maxi motor, which is a bit heavier, but has actual physical buttons. Also, the bluetooth connectivity is just a gimmick, but sadly that's the age we live in, everything has to be connected and touchscreen. Otherwise the pump is very good and feels solid. If it's as durable as our 10+ year old Swing and the touch buttons don't bother you it's worth the premium price.
