Oral-B iO toothbrushes feature openings in the brush heads to allow water to flush through the brush head tube and let air in, allowing the brush head to dry sufficiently after use and reducing moisture inside. There’s nothing in our toothbrush components that causes mold before use. Mold requires organic material to grow, which isn’t present in our brushes. While it’s rare, mold can develop after use if it's stored in a damp area or comes into contact with cleaning agents or soaps that can make the plastic porous.
