Unfortunately, the trimmer doesn’t work as well as the one on my last (much older) razor from Philips. So I ordered a stand-alone detail trimmer from another manufacturer like barbers use. Overall, I’m very happy with the quality and close shave. It also shaves 2-3 days of growth with ease and is a huge upgrade in that respect.

My concern about closeness of shave has proven wrong . . . with care, the Norelco 8000 rivals my old manual shaver without the nicks and cuts.

    Close shave

    Forget the motion sensors. They don’t work!

    I’ve used this razor for about a year now. I’ve always used this brand ( since Christmas 1965 when I got one as a present). This is the 8000 series. First of all the pop up trimming pieces doesn’t cut. It seems slow and flimsy. I can’t get a straight cut on my sideburns. At my age and thinning hair this should be easy. The nose/ear trimmer is also not well designed. The shaving aspect is similar to the others I have owned. An I’ve owned more than a dozen of them. Philips should focus on a smooth easy shave. Forget the fancy monitoring parts. As long as you make large circles on your cheek it’s fine. But go to your neck or upper lip and it can’t tell what you’re doing. Also if you turn your head instead of moving the razor to the new spot it doesn’t seem to follow that.

    Razor cuts off during shaving

    Good close shave

    Excellent product that gives a great close shave - it’s easy to use, simple to clean and holds its charge really well. The cleaning pod works well and seems very hygienic. Not sure the motion ratings on the app make much sense but the app is useful for monitoring charge and shaver head levels. Overall very good product.

    A solid, quiet shaver.

    [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like how quiet this shaver is compared to the Braun shaver I’ve used for years, it’s remarkable how much less noise it produces. The Braun did provide a slightly closer shave but it’s not significant enough to worry about. The trimmer on the Phillips shaver could be better but it’s adequate. I do like the ease of cleaning this shaver. Time will tell how it will hold up but for now I’m satisfied with the purchase.
