So Good!
“A lone tear trailed down Mrs. Culpepper’s cheek, and then a shadow smile for the little swamp truant escaping again.”

Did noy enjoy
Unbelievable that a person raised alone in a swamp could accomplish so much. Horrible ending. Just proved the townspeople right.

Blah
Not sure what all the positive reviews are for. Found it boring and slow. Very small anticlimactic twist at the end.

Must Read!
LOVED. LOVED. LOVED. My new favorite book! And if that’s not enough to convince you, this was a mystery literary fiction novel with dual timelines that were seamed together flawlessly. The ending blew my mind! So many books you can predict the endings and still love them but I never would’ve guessed the ending. Once you think you know everything there is to know, the author throws another surprise your way. This novel made me irate, intoxicated, and I cried FOUR times (new record) throughout the novel. At first, I didn’t know if I’d enjoy the book. There were so many details about the marsh where the main character, Kya, was living and I felt as though I’d never get into it. As I continued to read I realized we needed that information. We needed to understand Kya’s love of the marsh and her broken home (in more ways than one). This information would help build the character and who she becomes. I loved the rollercoaster of emotions I felt and found myself wanting more of each timeline every time the chapter would end and the other timeline story would begin. One timeline shows us the life of Kya. The family that left her, how she raised herself to become the woman she grew into, and the love she found along the way. We watch Kya grow up and with that, my love and appreciation grew with her while I read each word. The second timeline takes us through the mysterious murder of the town’s star quarterback. The oh so loved and admired Chase Andrews. While the prejudice against Kya and her lifestyle drive her farther away from people and a “normal” life, it is the marsh that will save her and has always saved her. Friends with the birds, Kya builds her life and her success right where she is, while the townspeople of Barkley Cove go to all ends to prove that a guilty verdict, death row, should be the conviction declared against Chase Andrew’s murderer. But can they prove there was even a crime committed?

Good book, a little predictable
Overall a good book. Enjoyed learning about the characters through the past and present alternating chapters but as you get closer to the end, you start to see how this will unfold. I would recommend and have to some girlfriends
