Predictable
Standoff by Patricia Bradley is the first book in her Natchez Trace Park Ranger series. Brooke Danvers is set to follow in her Dad’s footsteps and become a Park Ranger Law Enforcement Officer. When her father is murdered, she vows that she will find who killed him. Luke Fereday is sent to Natchez to find the drug cartel that is smuggling drugs up the Trace. What he didn’t count on was falling for Brooke. Can he keep her safe from those who want her dead? The characters were pretty predictable. By the second chapter I had already figured out who the villains were. There’s a lot of action with some romance thrown in. All in all, it was a good story I just wish it hadn’t been so obvious.
I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

Running for Her Life!
In just a few days, Brooke’s father has died, she has been shot at and run off the road. She surprised a burglar who then beat her up, and she has been in an explosion. Luke, literally the boy next door, has come back into her life acting like everything should be the same between them. This is despite the fact he has been gone for over a decade.
What is going on? How could her father be accused of suicide, why is someone trying to kill her, and will she figure it out before it is too late?
From the first page, this story hits the ground running with lots of action and characters. There are undercover agents, a sting operation, and the most dangerous person of them all is someone she knows well, but she hasn’t quite figured out who.
The author kept me guessing the identity of the guilty party, up until the end, I did not solve it. This clean story, written from a Christian point of view, will keep you on your toes while you enjoy well developed characters and an entertaining story. I recommend this 5-star book to those who enjoy mysteries and thrillers with a touch of romance.

CLOSE TO HOME!
Patricia Bradley’s newest release STANDOFF (Natchez Trace Park Rangers Book #1) hits close to home! The setting of the Natchez Trace Parkway is near and dear to me as part of the Parkway runs about two miles from my home. Also, I’m very familiar with the city of Natchez and other surrounding areas as I spent a Summer serving as a Youth Minister in Natchez. (Students make the BEST Tour Guides!). As I read this book, I had no problem visualizing exactly where the events took place.
This book centers around a problem all to common to most places - narcotics and the cartels that control them, Brooke Danvers is starting her first tour as newly minted Park Ranger. She is the the daughter of well respected Ranger John Danvers. John has been investigating a drug ring for quite some time and has had the aid of a joint task force of law enforcement officers and an undercover Ranger. When Ranger John Danvers is killed on Brooke’s first day at work, she finds herself fighting to work on the case. Her best friend from childhood happens to be home checking on his grandmother. Luke Fereday proves to be much more of a friend than Brooke could ever have imagined she needed. The action is non-stop in this this novel! Readers quickly realize they have no idea who can be trusted in this game of cat-and-mouse.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Revell and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

Thrilling
Standoff by Patricia Bradley is a thrilling novel. Brooke has recently become a law officer. Luke, who left her years ago to attend the Naval Academy and never returned, or even said goodbye is back in town. He just left town with no respect for her feelings nor the romance they shared. As Brooke starts her new career, just after her father is murdered, she is overwhelmed and determined to discover who killed her father. Who can you trust in the department and who is feeding the drug cartel their information?
While I must admit, it was hard to follow all of the characters in this story, it was a good read. The thrilled pace keep you wondering what is next and who is responsible for the murders! It is a plot twisting enjoyable novel!

Fast Paced Series Opener!
"What had he gotten himself into?"
Just about every character in this book could ask themself the same question. . . what? . . . and why?
When questionable deaths keep popping up in Natchez, Mississippi, park ranger Brooke Danvers is overwhelmed with evidence that doesn't make any sense. One of those deaths happened to be her father, and she is admant that he did not take his own life as the crime scene seemed to suggest. And what about Luke Fereday; he keeps turning up every time she needs moral, or in one case physical, support. Why is he back in Natchez, why is he sticking so close, and why does what he tells her about himself not match up with the kind of Luke that she knew, and cared a lot about, once upon a time. The sight of that man can still turn her head and give her a heart a swirl.
As Luke and Brooke cautiously fall back into a comaraderie of sorts, there's so much they don't know . . . and it can hurt them. A drug cartel is operating with reckless abandon up and down the Natchez Trace and eventually the two of them will knowingly, or in Brooke's case unknowingly, find themselves in the epicenter.
At times, the plotting in this book seemed a bit forced, and thus rushed. The main characters were wonderful, but the secondary characters were often confusing to identify; adding to the mystique, but also adding to the reader's uncertainty as to how to integrate them fully into the story. First books in series have a lot to accomplish, and "Standoff" accomplished a lot!
I received this book from Baker Publishing through Interviews and Reviews. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.

Fabulous suspense!
Wow - don’t expect to put this down before you finish it! The author has done a fabulous job of drawing you into the suspense with the first scene as the young hacker discovers information that absolutely terrifies him. Natchez Mississippi sounds like a lovely region, with plenty of places to explore and enjoy. Unfortunately it also has many off the beaten track areas where those with evil intent can flourish, a wonderful breeding ground for the drug cartel and a problem the Park Rangers are working hard to curtail. As a new law enforcement Ranger, Brooke Danvers seems to get caught in the middle of it all.
This page-turner has everything you want in an edge-of-your-seat book that you won’t want to put down until that last period. Even then the mystery, intrigue and suspense will follow you as you try to figure out how you could have missed it - all evidence of an incredibly well-written story. I highly recommend this book, but perhaps not something you should read at night, especially if you live alone.
I received an ARC through Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. My impressions and comments were in no way solicited.
