Q: Can you turn off the Roku when not using?
submitted by Nancy - 3 years ago
A: Hi Nancy, I don't know if you found out the answer but I watched a Youtube Video and the guy said to hit the Home button when done streaming instead of power tv off or Roku would still run? Check that answer out...I seen another guy who used a certain type outlet ?
submitted bystonekelrn - 2 years ago
A: To the person who asked if the Roku is on all of the time, you can buy a special power strip for your TV and its devices. Plug the TV into the main slot and your ROKU and other devices will turn on and off when you turn on the TV. Saves energy. These power strips are generally available online or at big box stores.
submitted byGrandma M - 1 year ago
A: Hi Nancy, Roku streaming players are low-power devices that are designed to remain on and always connected to the internet. This helps to allow for instant-access to all of your favorite channels, along with new OS software updates automatically without interruption.

Q: I'm wondering if this will work with my Mitsubishi WD-65C9 tv? Also I have a Panasonic DP- UB820 Blu-ray player already plugged into the tv, will Roku get along with that since it turns the tv on too?
submitted by Disappointed - 4 months ago
A: I didn't mention I use a wireless hotspot and when Roku wouldn't download a software update I turned the hotspot off for 10 mn. and then back on. That worked. So far I love Roku. Thanks for helping!

Q: Just switched to a new internet service. I was wondering if a Roku can be placed on a smart tv? Roku just seems so much easier to use and I can get apps that my You tubetv doesn't have.
submitted by Jacksonmh1 - 4 months ago
A: Hello, Jacksonmh1! Absolutely! Roku turns an ordinary TV into a Smart TV and makes an existing Smart TV Smarter with consistent software updates and endless free entertainment, including 250+ Live TV channels with news, sports, and more streaming on The Roku Channel. Plus, you can stream the most popular channels in a snap. It's easy to watch what you love for less: no monthly equipment rentals, long-term contracts, or hidden fees. If you wish to access premium streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Disney+ through the Roku device, you must pay a separate subscription fee to the platform you choose. The choice of what to watch and pay for is up to you. We like to call it TV on your terms. As always, you can browse our Roku Channel Store on our website. Happy Streaming!

Hi Jeremy, thanks for reaching out. If you are receiving an on-screen error message indicating that your player is too warm, we invite you to visit: go.roku.com/tempcheck. As a reminder, you may want to try finding a cooler location for your Roku player. For example, avoid placing the unit in direct sunlight, or inside a cabinet (or other enclosed space). Similarly, avoid placing the unit on top of other electronic devices such as cable boxes, routers, or audio/video receivers, as these also tend to emit heat. You could also try moving your player further away from your TV by installing an extension cable—we offer them for free for Streaming Stick customers here https://my.roku.com/hdmi. If your issue persists, please send us an email at support.roku.com/contactus so we can help. Roku Customer Advocate

Love it! It was super easy to set up and it has amazing quality. The only thing that is sort of annoying is how short the cord is to plug into the wall. I had an Apple TV and it gave out so I decided to switch over to the Roku & it was the best decision!

I'd give it O stars if possible. I've had this about a month and it is defective. It doesn't hold a wifi signal. I have to reconnect each time I get on. I have to sit through the ROKU letters "reboot dance" every time I get on instead of going to home page. While watching something, it will spontaneously reset to the home page. Sometimes it will just go black and I have to reboot to get it working again. It responds to the remote slowly intermittently. I spent this morning on chat with Roku and got nowhere. The tech seemed to think just plugging into the wall would solve all my problems, which I can't do bc of heavy furniture. I have a power block which my previous 2 roku boxes worked just fine with. Apparently the claim that this is portable is erroneous as it can't be powered off the TV and needs to be plugged in using a cable and adapter. The point of getting this was to eliminate the cable. So- this item is just as portable as the boxes bc you have to drag a cable and an adapter with you for either of them. It was working as described above, plugged into the USB port. When I plugged it into the power block I got an insufficient power warning. I was told to thy another plug, which also didn't work. I was then told to unplug everything and try again 30 minutes and do a software update. Now it isn't responding to the remote at all. I requested an replacement several times and was told by the tech that Roku doesn't do exchanges. So I'm stuck with this non-operational hunk of junk. I have had several Rokus over the years- both boxes and TVs. I have never had any trouble with any of them. The older ones I've given to friends are still working. This one is defective and roku will not stand by their product.

Overall the device works fine. It’s easy to use and set up. That being said, the remote can be set up to work with your TV, but it always stops working. So you have to go back and reset up the remote to control the TV (volume and power). It’s a minor inconvenience, but it drives me insane.
