Q: does this product includde a power cord to be used instead of a battery?

A: Hi Rob G. Good morning and thank for your question. Yes, our Westclox MODEL#66705 clock does include a power cord. However, it is not to be used in place of a battery, The battery in this clock's main purpose is to act as a backup option in case of a power outage. If this were to happen then the battery back up will automatically continue to operate the clock and maintain both the clock and the alarm time. Thank you for your question Rob G. Best regards!

Pretty disappointing that the battery backup does NOT enable you to actually tell the time with the clock during a power outage. The clock only displays the time when it is plugged into the wall. In the event of a power outage the screen goes blank. The instructions say the battery backup helps the clock to keep time during a power failure--when the power comes back on, the (mostly) correct time should appear. But in a power outage you have a blank clock just like every other digital clock, even though this one has a battery in it. So if you are looking for a battery-operated clock that actually tells you the time-- don't get this one.
