A: Hello. With battery operated clocks, the backlight is "on demand". You push the snooze button and the light will come on. It will turn itself off after several seconds. This allows you to see the time and maintain your battery life. It glows brightly in the dark but is also soothing to the eyes. Once you see the time, you can quickly go back to sleep in the darkness.
