Q: Is this color easy to come off like if in the future i want to dye it light ? Or would i have to bleach it later on if i want to go back light?

submitted by Janet - 9 years ago
  • A: Hi Janet, this hair dye is permanent, so it won't fade with time. We don't recommend bleaching color-treated hair. Your stylist may be able to offer some guidance as well. Hope this helps!

  • A: Hi Janet! Nutrisse Color Creme #20, Soft Black, is a permanent haircolor and will have to be removed before going to a lighter shade. So, it will not completely wash out, and will remain a soft black!. We hope this information is helpful!

  • A: Hey so if been having jet black, black black and another black all mixed. I decided to go light a while back. DONT BLEACH. I recommend color oops the white/red box. It says bleach free. It would lighten up your hair ALOT. You can do 2 daily every 2 weeks or 1 until you reach desired color.

submitted byChyna - 2 years ago

Q: I previously tried to dye my hair blonde with a different product (I have naturally light brown hair) but it didn't lighten my hair enough. It's been about 2 1/2 months since then. Is this ok to use?

submitted by Johanna B - 9 years ago
  • A: I use it every 4 weeks. So, yes, you are saved for sure

submitted byOksana - 9 years ago
  • A: Hi Johanna, you can safely color again if your hair is in good condition. However, if you have light brown hair, the lightest you could go with a traditional haircolor is a medium blonde. If you wanted to go lighter, you must use something with bleach!

Q: I have dark brown/black hair with grays coming in. Would the 111 Extra-Light Ash Blonde only color my grays or would it also alter my dark hair?

submitted by Elizabeth - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi Elizabeth. Thank you for reaching out to Garnier regarding the Nutrisse, shade #111, Extra Light Ash Blonde. This color is not recommended for you based on your natural hair color being dark brown/black. The dark brown/black hair will turn orange and the grays may take on that lighter shade but not necessarily cover the gray 100% because it's such a light color. If you're looking to be that light of a blonde, you need to use a bleach instead of a hair color. Unfortunately, our bleaching kit is not recommended for your color hair.

Q: is natural dark brown reddish? chocolate brown?

submitted by Morg - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Mde- Thank you for your question on the Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Permanent Haircolor. The shade #40 is considered a dark natural brown shade there is no added red tones as it is a neutral shade. We hope you will enjoy using!

submitted byGarnier Consumer Care - 2 years ago

  • A: Always order the color you want with "ash" in the color name. This takes care of any red that might want to come thru. Since I don't want any red, I order Light Ash Brown or Medium Ash Brown.

Q: is chamomile 100 an ash color

submitted by Sally - 4 years ago

  • A: Hi there Sally! Garnier Nutrisse 100, Extra-Light Natural Blonde (Chamomile), is our lightest natural blonde shade. Its not an ash tone, but the natural version of an extra light blonde, Shade 100 is best for anyone with natural hair between light blonde and light brown. For the same color but with an ‘ash’ tone, use the shade 111 Extra-Light Ash Blonde (White Chocolate).

Q: my hair is naturally super dark brown but right now i have blonde highlights on my hair, i’m wanting to dye my hair back black but i don’t want the black to have any blue undertones, what would be the best color option of box dye for me?

submitted by alederle1 - 5 years ago
  • A: Hello! When dying over highlights, the highlights absorb color much easier than the rest of your hair, which makes it difficult to rid your hair of multiple color tones. For the best assistance, our Virtual Beauty Consultants can help make shade recommendations and answer other hair coloring questions. They can be reached by texting “BeautyChat” to 827438 from your phone. Hope this helps!

Q: I'm currently using 600 Deep Light Neutral Brown as I don't want any brassiness. I would like something in a similar shade but golden instead of neutral. What shade would you recommend?

submitted by Dawn - 5 years ago
  • A: Hi there Dawn. For a color similar to the Nutrisse Ultra Coverage 600 Deep Light Neutral Brown that has some gold, use the Nutrisse Ultra Coverage shade 630 – Deep Light Golden Brown. However, if your hair tends to look brassy when dyed, using a color with gold can enhance the tendency to turn brassy.

I used the chestnut brown on my light brown hair today. Instead of going darker like I expected, it went lighter. Was disappointed to have my hair look lighter not darker. Is there a way to fix it?

    Much too golden and thick

First, the Dark Natural Blond turns out much too golden compared to the pictures of Drew. I’ve used it multiple times and follow the directions exactly. Thoughts on what to do differently? And the formula is so thick that I have to bang it down into the sink before squeezing it onto my hair. Every time! So at the end of coloring, my sink has color all over it. I like how gentle the formula is on my hair.

HI there Sharon89, thank you so much for your review! We are absolutely thrilled to hear that you love how gentle the Nutrisse formula is on your hair—keeping your hair feeling soft and healthy is our top priority! Regarding the color, because everyone's natural hair pigments are unique, sometimes a shade can pull more of those warm, golden tones during the coloring process. If you prefer a cooler look, we highly recommend trying a shade with 'ash' or 'cool' in the name next time, as these tones are formulated to help neutralize and cancel out unwanted warmth! If we had a dark ash blonde, this sounds like it would be perfect for you. While this is a rich cream formula, it should not be so thick that you have to wrestle to get the mixture onto your hair. If you would like to speak to us directly about your recent purchase, give us a call @ 800-442-7643 9 AM to 5:30 PM ET M – F

Disappointed with the new color version (enriched)

I used this Deep Burgundy color (Nutrisse Garnier no. 42) for many years, and I always got numerous compliments. Recently, the formula has changed to enriched color, and I was very disappointed. The scalp around my hairline remains orange for days, and it's really hard to remove it. Also, the hair color is not what I expected. Instead of the cherry color, it is more orange. Please, please, bring back the old color, the way it was was perfect.

Hi Cami07, thank you so much for being such a loyal Garnier fan over the years! We are so incredibly sorry to hear that the updated Nutrisse shade 42, Deep Burgundy (Black Cherry did not give you the beautiful deep burgundy result you were expecting. Let alone the unexpected orange that you experienced on your hairline. We know how frustrating it is when a holy-grail product changes! Hard thick cream, horrible

Hard on the end where the top is, can't get cream out. Had to cut other end, put in the bottle and it was so thick that it would get stuck in bottle nozzle. Applied pressure, squirted all over the place. Something is wrong , this is the second time this has happened. Thought first time was a fluke.

Horrible experience. Ive used Garnier in the past but this time mademy scalp itch nonstop. Its now day 3 and cant stop scratching my scalp. Never had this happen with any other brand. So uncomfortable. Will have to go to doctor. Never again. They mustve changed their formula. Also, while color is changing you get scared its not gonna turn out right because it turns green. Color was blah! John Frieda mousse hair dye is amazing! Skip this one! Soo many better brands! out there!

Hi Evilheffer, We apologize you were not satisfied with the results you achieved with Nutrisse Darkest Brown. We know how disappointing it can be to look forward to a new application of color only to find that your results are not what you expected. There are many reasons why haircolor results can come out too dark. Once you have color-treated hair, we suggest following the touch up application method to achieve optimal results. Otherwise, by doing repeat full head applications, due to the hair's porosity, you are left with a haircolor result that is much darker than what you intended. If you have any additional questions or would like to speak with one of our haircolor experts directly, please reach back out!

    Hair colour

To say I’m not impressed is an understatement!!!!I have been using this product for years and I love it, but today when I put it on my hair and my whole head was green!! Not happy!!! Luckily when I washed it out it was okay. Might have to change brands now!!!😡

    Love the cool ash

Really happy with this. Warm tones do not look good on my and my water at home keeps making my hair brassy. I'm happy to get an ash brown to keep it cool toned. Hair feels good and the price is right.

    Meh. Not bad, not great.

Leaves blonde hair green and not enough product to color a shoulder length bob

Hello Cici! It is very concerning to hear about the unexpected color result you experienced and the difficulty with the product quantity. When applying a dark brown shade over hair that is very light or blonde, the absence of warm underlying pigments can sometimes lead to a cool or ashy "greenish" tone. For a successful transition from blonde to dark brown, we often recommend a two-step process or choosing a shade with warmer, gold, or mahogany tones to balance the cool base and ensure a natural-looking finish. Regarding the amount of product, for hair that is shoulder-length or has a thicker texture, we typically suggest having two boxes on hand to ensure full and even saturation, which is key to achieving a consistent and vibrant color from roots to ends. We truly value your feedback as it helps us improve our guidance for those making significant color changes at home.

    Moisturizing and gorgeous color!

I’ve had my hair colored a lot over the past 5 years since I started getting gray hair. My hair always feels so dry for weeks after. I switched to this and my hair is so much softer than after my Salon Color Treatments. Also, this is my favorite color because it brings out my light auburn hues in my hair. I actually buy this color and have my stylist put it in.
