Disappointing All Around
I got this Oral-B 1000 to replace my Philips Sonicare, which broke after about 18 months. I had read many great reviews on this toothbrush and had high hopes. Unfortunately I am quite disappointed in the Oral-B 1000. My teeth do not feel as clean after a brushing. The clean does not feel like it lasts. The toothbrush gahters water beneath the brushhead which runs down the handle and forms a white ring on whatever surface it rests on. Removing the head after each brush simply transfers the drip to wherever the head goes. The toothbrush is also much noiseier than the one I had. The battery only lasts a few days in between charges. Overall I did not get anything I hoped for out of this toothbrush. I expected more out of Oral-B. I'll be switching back to Sonicare.

Rubber on switch gets mildewy
Rubber section of on-switch smells like mildew. Cleaned it with various cleaning products, always smells like mildew again when it gets wet and whole brushing teeth. It’s gross, I even take the tooth brush head off to dry. And it’s the rubbed part on the toothbrush handle. Huge design flaw.

All of our electric toothbrushes are designed to make them easier to clean, and nothing can get inside. There's nothing on our brush handles or brush heads that would cause an unpleasant odor. We recognize that you clean your brush, but we suggest trying our cleaning tips. After brushing, thoroughly rinse the brush head while the toothbrush is switched on to minimize toothpaste residue remaining on the brush between uses. Then after rinsing, switch the brush off, remove the brush head from the handle, and clean both parts separately under running water. Wipe both the handle and brush head dry (with a soft towel) and leave them to air dry completely before putting them back together. If necessary, it is OK to use a mild detergent/cleanser and water to clean the outside of the handle. Your feedback is important to us, and we’d be happy to learn more. Moldy
I had one of these for about 5 years before it stopped holding a charge & I replaced it with the same model January 2026. I don’t know what materials used in manufacturing these changed but this model develops mold overnight in all the crevices and bottom of the handle! It also doesn’t hold a charge as long and the newish different speed settings is a pain in the butt when you’re just wanting to turn the thing off. Never buying this again.

We’re sorry to hear about this, Lizbeth, and we understand you're likely frustrated. It might help to know that the Oral-B Pro 1000 has a Ni-MH (Nickel-metal hydride) battery. A full charge can take up to 22 hours. Regarding the other concern you mentioned, because there’s nothing in our toothbrush components that would cause mold, this isn’t expected. Mold requires organic material to grow, which isn’t present in our brushes. While it’s rare, mold can develop after use if the brush is stored in a damp area or comes into contact with certain cleaning agents or soaps that can make the plastic porous. Be sure to completely clean and dry your brush after each use, by rinsing the brush head under running water with the handle on. Then switch it off, remove the head, clean both parts separately, and dry them before reattaching. We’d be glad to talk further with you about this, and help as we can. This toothbrush is so loud, I burst out laughing the first time I turned it on. It will wake up your household. Also, the heads seem poorly designed with holes that will trap gunk. I’m very unimpressed.

I’ve wanted an oral b electric toothbrush for a while but couldn’t justify spending the money on one. When I saw this one, I was so excited to try it. I actually thought I got a defective one because of how loud it is but after reading other reviews it seems it’s just that loud. Like others said, the button is really hard to press and getting it to turn off is a fight in itself. However, I do feel like it cleans my teeth pretty well. I just think there’s probably better electric toothbrushes out there that are more worthy of your money.

Nope.
There's no pressure sensor, or at least nothing changes to indicate it. You have to cycle through all three speeds to turn it off. It doesn't shut off when I hit two minutes. It doesn't hold a charge for more than a few days. All of that stuff is annoying, but the worst part is that it holds water somewhere. It leaks water the entire time I brush, which makes the handle slippery and hard to hold. I try to shake all of the water out when I'm done, but it still leaves a sticky ring on the charger or counter. The water inside makes me concerned about growing mold. Ugh. It might be getting my teeth clean, might not, but I'd rather use a regular toothbrush than deal with this slippery, messy, gross thing.

Didn't Work After Five Days
After five days of use, it didn't work. There was no response from the toothbrush at all, despite the charging base being plugged in the whole time. (Unfortunately, and as noted by others, this model has no light to indicate when, or if, it's charging.) I returned it to Target.

The worst
The worst tooth brush ever and I’ve tried several electric brushes over the years . It does not have a timer . Does not have auto off after 2 minutes . It’s extremely loud . Despite being only 5 days ago it does not hold a charge to even finish one brushing . Braun /oral B really dropped the ball on this garbage .

This isn't the experience we'd expect or want your to have, and our products undergo many quality checks to ensure that each performs to our high standards. Please try these tips to see if they resolve the charging issue. First, be sure the outlet is providing power. We realize this seems obvious, but it's actually a very common explanation for why a brush won't charge -- and you might not even be aware. It's especially true for outlets built into a bathroom cabinet (like a mirrored wall cabinet). In many cases, the bathroom light switch needs to be flipped on for that outlet to work. Some bathroom outlets also have a safety device that shuts off power in certain situations, and the reset button may need to be pressed to resume power. To confirm the outlet is working properly, try testing it with another electrical appliance or try plugging your brush charger into another outlet in the home to see if the brush will charge. Also, an Oral-B toothbrush should not be charged on or near a metal surface which can interfere with the charging process. Be sure to follow the usage instructions that came with your brush for detailed charging information. works well but no flashing light for pressure
I believe I bought this one a year ago when my 1st oral b electric toothbrush died after 7 years. i like the black color however the pressure sensor doesn’t work. my previous toothbrush would flash a red light if i was brushing too hard. i also don’t like how loud it is—my previous one was just as loud. this one still has the same basic 3 modes: clean, sensitive, and massage; it vibrates every 30 seconds and then buzzes 3x in a row after 2 minutes. it holds a charge well while i’m traveling (about a week).
