Nice holiday purchase
Nice little train. Only complaint was it didn’t come with the motor, and the motor was on back order until after Christmas (a month prior to Christmas). Otherwise, this set is great for what it is. A great addition to the holiday village collection.

Good train
I don't know how it happened, but looks like we are missing a whole bag 6. I was gonna say why our train doesn't look like the picture, so i went thru the instruction booklet and found that we have no bag 6 in our box. Since this set is for my son, it took it less than an hour to build it.. but our train ends with the polar bear and we don't have a bag 6.

Very disappointed with this build! Couldn’t get the motor parts since they weren’t available. This AFTER I already paid for it. LEGO should make sure to have enough parts if they’re going to sell something that has a motor!

Wheels do not get enough traction
Building this train was fine - bent flowers were a pain, and the train car parts get in the way of the couplers - but I was really excited about the moving smoke and polar bear. Disappointment. The train does not have enough weight for the moving part wheels to get any traction, so the moving parts do not move. How did Lego not catch this in development?

Looks great, didn't function great.
Despite rebuilding this several times, I was not able to get it to run correctly with the powered-up functions, similar to many others. This was extremely frustrating, however, the set does look great, and wasn't a challenging build.

Beautiful
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had the best time building the Lego holiday express train, there was so many pieces and it was such a beautiful finishing piece to our Christmas tree. Really put us in holiday mode. The holiday express train is a lovely design made out of the amazing Lego bricks. There is so much detail! We can't wait to buy the motor to make it move too!

So-So
This was purchased for my grandson. While he enjoyed the build he was disappointed that the train wasn’t powered. I hadn’t realized that the parts were sold separately. I don’t mind buying the parts but I find it unconscionable that Lego would sell the train without having the 3 necessary components in stock. Hopefully by next Christmas they will have it in stock?

A fabulous holiday lego set!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Am absolutely fabulous holiday lego set to build! Clear instructions, not too fiddly and looks amazing when built. The moving parts don't work very well on the tracks though, however they do when the train is not on the tracks.

Christmas train standstill
Great Christmas train, looks great too but poor movement on the tracks! Does not stay on tracks with the slightest movement! So has now become a stationary addition to our Christmas sets! Disappointed with the poor design

Worst Lego build ever
Truly the worst build ever. We purchase the special Christmas sets every year and build them as a family in early December. We were disappointed to find that it didn’t come with the motor and battery, and the fun pieces don’t move (like the polar bears arms and smoke out of the train), without the added weight of the motor. Those pieces were out of stock. When we finally were able to find them to purchase, it was all such a disappointment. The first time I have ever wanted to return something. Very disappointed Lego. And we’re pretty good customers, we basically have a house full of legos.

I wish I had skipped a year
I have been buying the winter village sets every year since they first began the series, and rebuilding them every year with my family, and this is the first time I have regretted buying a holiday set. The train is a step down in both build quality and playability from the previous version. I was hugely disappointed that they chose not to include the powered up components with the increased price, and even worse, failed to anticipate the demand for the powered up components needed to make it motorized, so I didn't even bother assembling the track because I had no way to drive it. (The set didn't work with the previous version's power setup). The train car connections are a major disappointment compared to the magnetic ones in the previous Holiday Train. Overall, it's an ok Lego train, but lacks the detail and whimsy that makes the holiday sets a fun tradition in our house. They found a way to raise the price while providing a worse product than the previous iteration.

Holiday Express train
This Holiday Express train is phenomenal because of the gear they use for the main train and the polar bear and the fun seating at the back and the railroad track though I wish they had more tracks so you could customize it's but at the same time become a circle. Even so this train is a HIGH recommendation , but I would advise you to buy it when there's a discount.

Another disappointing train
I agree with the many other reviews of this set that buying the motor is a complete waste of money. I was going to buy the motor as an additional cost, but after I realized it was three separate items, each obscenely overpriced, I ditched the idea. Luckily I had a motor left over from another train, and was able to try it out. I am so glad I didn't spend the money on the motor. As others have pointed out, this train does NOT move with the installed motor. It suffers from the exact same problem that the last holiday train (10254) suffered from: the wheels slip when attempting to move the gears installed in the towed cars. In 10254, the tree prevented the motorized train from gripping the track. And in this one, BOTH the bear and the pumping smoke stack prevent the wheels from gripping the track because the motor will not both move the train and the geared attachments. The sad fact is, LEGO knows this. The team must have tested it, and they chose to sell it--and the additional motor pieces--to unsuspecting customers.

Holiday Train For The Win!
I will be brief. This set is outstanding and gives many challenges, allowing the builder total satisfaction upon completion! It looks great and will be an awesome addition to our holiday displays for years to come!
