Q: Why use palm oil? Why mess with it and instead just stick to peanuts? Sad, Justin.

submitted by SashaBane888 - 1 year ago
  • A: About 30-ish years ago when 100% peanuts-only peanut butter came on the market, after the jars sat on the shelf for just a few days, the ground peanuts (the butter) would settle and the peanut oil would rise to the top of the jar. The top 1/5 to 1/6 of every jar would be oil. Users could either spend 25+ minutes mixing the hardened butter and the oil into somewhat of a creamy paste or spend 5-8 minutes mixing the top half of the ground peanuts with oil (making a very, very oily PB. I remember pouring the oil off hoping to consume less fat. The first 2 to 3 scoops of the PB would be spreadable as the top was where the oil had separated and settled. The entire test of the jar would turn into a brick of ground peanuts -- so hard it could be sliced. Companies realized the problem and had to mix a hydrogenated oil into the butter to inhibit the separation. Otherwise, we'd be buying a jar of PB and constantly trying our best to mix the peanut oil into the butter every time we wanted PB. It's not ideal, but unless you are able to grind your own roasted peanuts before each use, this has become the compromise. There's always the option to go to a grocery store that has a grinder and having the machine grind your nuts, but if you do this, I strongly suggest you limit your purchase to 2oz or less. Otherwise, you'll be in the same predicament than prompted manufacturers to addhydrogenated oil to the slurry of ground nuts.

  • A: The reason that we use palm oil is because it is a Non-GMO, non-hydrogenated oil that acts as a stabilizer and reduces oil separation. This means less stirring for you every time you dip into a jar! From the beginning, JUSTIN’S® has been focused on the responsible sourcing of all our ingredients, including our palm oil, and we are constantly pushing the supply chain for advancements in this area. We are members of the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm), the leading organization to date for sustainably sourced palm oil and JUSTIN’S® is proud to be among the companies who are actively involved and invested in supporting these initiatives. The palm oil used in our nut butter jars, squeeze packs and chocolate candy pieces is certified sustainable under a mixed supply chain model. In addition to their RSPO membership, our palm oil suppliers for our nut butters and nut butter cups have built their own independent sustainability policies, and the mass balance suppliers for our nut butters have plans to be fully traceable.

    So Dislike This Peanut Butter

So dislike this peanut butter. I use natural peanut butter to fill my dog’s Kongs. This was so oily and thin that it kept coming out the other side. Yuck.

They are AMAZING when they haven't "turned" before purchase

My wife and I live them. I replaced my evening ice cream wuth them. I wish they were cheaper. There's an issuebthatbI hope Justin's will be addressing, and we think it's more common in the warmer months. About 20% of the time we get them, the chocolate doesn't pop and the.leanutbutter is all jacked up. I think it's due to less preservatives and temps goingbip Amanda does from manufacture to the grocery store. Justin's, I just bought 5 "Bad" bags. They are not out of date. Please tell me there's a solution coming. Thanks, I'm a recovering Reese'saholic, thanks to yall!

    Great taste, label too subtle.

Love it, except when I accidentally get crunchy because the word is so small and the background color blends in too well.

    PALM OIL?

I used to love your product. YOU Added one of the most toxic oils- palm oil to the ingredients. Be better! Such a disappointment going cheap and adding such a terrible ingredient. SHAME ON YOU! You've lost a lot of people and more to follow because I will never suggest your brand. Full stop.

    Best Peanut butter Hands down

I literally can eat this with a spoon by the jar full. I love honey and peanut butter and the combo of the two is the best snack for me a my little one who won't eat anything with protein so the protein in this is a plus! So yummy according to her! We love your product and buy the snack pack at Starbucks just to get the peanut butter packet inside when on the run !!

Who would have thought that a manufacturer of peanut butter would add palm oil to the ingredients! what were they thinking! The last thing I expected, now I will have to throw away a 28 ounce container. Around $12 or more down the drain.Read the labels carefully my friends.

NOT Pollinator friendly! Contains palm oil!!

The jar for this peanut butter states "Pollinator Friendly" and Non-GMO, so you think you are buying a good product. However that is a lie as this product contains palm oil, and palm oil production is a major driver of deforestation, habitat loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and is threatening biodiversity and contributing to climate change. So this peanut butter IS NOT pollinator friendly! No natural peanut butter needs palm oil!
